I'm going to Florida in a month to housesit for another DISer (how cool is that!) and will be about 35 miles from WDW. Can I attend the Member Days events? Can I use my DVC card to get discounts for any onsite activities (not even sure what right now...just planning) or restaurant discounts, or do I need to be staying at a DVC resort?

We do plan to end our trip with 3 nights at WDW...but it will be at the AllStars. Not to sound like a snob or anything, but since we've only stayed at the Beach Club and Boardwalk Villas, am I in for a shock? Not that we're uppity or anything, but at WDW, we've always treated ourselves good (as opposed to the rest of the year)...this trip, at WDW, it's just me and the kids, and we're keeping the cost low and saving our points for when DH can be there.

MaryAnne -

My understanding is member days are open to all members so you should be fine.

As for the All Stars, I admit, I am a hotel snob. My DD (and I strongly agree) has named them the All Star Shoebox. They are VERY small rooms, especially if you are use to staying in a studio. I remember the only spot to put the pack n play was between the bed and the bathroom, so she used to get moved at night if anyone needed the bathroom;)

JMHO,
Sandy

Oh my. We're used to a 2 bedroom villa. It will be just me and the 3 kids tho (altho the girls and I will be fighting over who has to sleep with DS, who is 10 and a thrasher). I always thought the All-Stars looked kind of neat for kids, and we're getting way beyond the "kids" stage (DDs are 15 and almost 13), so I wanted to try it at least once.

Well...as I tell the kids...it'll be an adventure.

Thanks for the member info too Sandy!

I think you'll be able to rough it. Consider the All-Stars as primarily your place to sleep and you'll be fine. Heck, you're at WDW, how bad can it be? ;) ;)

I'm not sure which perks you will be able to use. Valet parking is one of them and you may be able to get the restaurant discounts. You won't be able to get the LOS discount (obviously) and you can't pool hop.

Have a great trip!

We stayed at AllStars Music last Sept., and had a great time...yes, the rooms are small, and the place is hopping! but we had also booked an adjoining king room, so we had a little more room to spread out. Would recommend that you book in the building closest to the main building...Calypso at music (fantasia at Movies, not sure about sports or popcentury) We also turned the kids sideways in the bed, so they had a little more room to thrash - but our kids are still little...bus service is great, and the service is all Disney...have fun!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

We are starting our 11 day vacation with 3 nights at All Star Movies before moving to Vero and OKW next week. It's just the DH and me in one room and 2 friends in another. Shoebox does fit as a name for it, but like someone said, if you are thinking of it as a place to just sleep, you will be fine.

We once tacked on an extra day on our vacation after our friends left. We were staying in a 2 bedroom at BCVs and DH and I moved to All Star Sports for that last night. We laughed that we had a bigger CLOSET at the BCVs then we had a room at AS!

Enjoy your trip!!!

Just a thing to remember. When you go to the pool at All Star you have to bring a towel from your room. They do not have towels by the pool there.

I was very suprised in April when we stayed there for two nights before moving to OKW.

The size of the rooms at All Star never bothered me before we joined DVC... now they seem rather small.

Have fun!!

I stayed last year at All Star Music for one night after a 1-bedroom at OKW - yes it is small - but I though it was kinda cute - I had Jazz - if you don't wan to paid for the preferred view - very nice - I really enjoyed the food court.

I kinda wish that one of the DVC resorts would get a food court - but I can't complain OKW is very close to PO.

oh expect lines at this resort no matter what time you eat - that was a surprise to me - I was use to PO where at lunch time there was basic no lines.

but I really though this was a really cute resort - I have reservation late Aug - early Sept there - but I got my points back from my brother so we are going to VWL - yea!!!

We've stayed at ASMu and ASSp a number of times and while the rooms are small compared to a DVC studio, they are fine. The three of us (DW and DS7) like the resorts and as one poster mentioned the convenience of a food court. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the parks or out of the room, you won't mind at all. The atmosphere is fun, it's very lively and the service we've gotten there has always been great. It surprised me how well they treat you in a value resort. I guess it's the Disney Difference!

We have stayed at all 3 All Star resorts and to be honest I prefer it to some of the DVC resorts we have stayed at or will be staying at. We love the ongoing commotion of people and all the kids and noise it is far more exciting than OKW or VWL yes the rooms are smaller but it is way more fun there.
