Okay, sorry for the silly question but is there a difference between a member cruise and a regular cruise? Is it just a bunch more Disney fans than usual?

There are a number of differences between the Member Cruise and a regular cruise. For one thing the Member Cruise costs more which is a major turn off for a lot of people. However for those extra points/dollars you do get a number of things:
Often a special itinerary (for the last couple of years 2 stops at Castaway Cay and a sea day).
The other difference is that the DVC Member Cruise is a charter so can only be booked through DVC (on a special booking day announced by them). You can pay by cash or points but if using cash (credit) you have to pay in full on that booking day.
