Hi,

So I was just wondering what the deal with the member cruise is....are they less expensive than the normal disney cruises?

TIA!

Bottom line, no the Member Cruises are not cheaper than a regular DCL cruise at the same time.

The Member Cruise is a charter cruise which means DVC takes over the ship. What they have done in the past is do a different itinerary than the regular cruises. This year they are doing Castaway Cay, a day at sea, and then back to Castaway Cay. For those of us who love Castaway Cay this is a dream cruise.

In addition DVC always has a special theme and special guests booked for the cruise. In the past (we've been on the 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Member Cruises) we have had a tour of the ship with a Disney Imangineer who helps do the designs/buys for the ship. We've watched Don Ducky Williams do his sketches while telling us how he got his job at Disney. We've seen talks by Roy Disney, Art Linkletter and Marty Skalar. We've had entertainment by Andrea McArdle, Jody Benson, Susan Egan and Richard Sherman.

The DVC Member Cruise isn't for everyone, but if are up for a Disney Cruise with some special Disney twists you should look into it.

Bottom line, they are more expensive than a regular DCL cruise! Sorry Mary, couldn't help it.:goodvibes ;)

I think I finally figured out what my problem is. As I get on in years and look at all the 'stuff' I have accumulated, I dread receiving more, which is what I would get on a DVC cruise. But I can see someone who loves that sort of thing having a ball on that cruise.

I wonder if they would consider doing a DCL cruise 'lite' as an option?
Same cruise, just no stuff! (Lower price, of course!):thumbsup2

I don't collect the "stuff" and have given most of it away. Passing on the pins to people who appreciate them is just passing the magic on to others. We went on a Members Cruise in '05 and if the timing was right, we would go on another one in a heartbeat. It's not the stuff that made it special and worth the cost to us, it was the whole experience.

WDWLVR says it better than I can.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I guess I'm a little too frugal (read: cheap!).;)

Thanks guys! We don't really enjoy Castawat Cay so for us it is not something we are into this year but in the future we might. Thanks again!

I think you missed my point. I don't go for the stuff. I give most of it away to friends who are DVC members and not on the cruise.

What we go for are the special guests. I love the history of Disney and getting to hear from people who were there in the beginning (Art Linkletter), who have worked on every Disney park (Marty Sklar) or who wrote the songs I grew up with (Richard Sherman) are what makes the cruise worth it to me.
