Member Cruise 2009

Next year the Wonder will be in dry dock in September so who knows what may happen with the member cruise.

This years cruise sails in 10 days on 9/21. DH and I will be doing a live report from the cruise over on the cruise trip reports board and I'll post a link to that thread over here on the DVC forum.
That's awesome! I will definitely be following.

This is very interesting news. I did not know this. Is there somewhere you can view when the ships will be making certain voyages, like the respositing cruise or a transatlantic?

We have been on several DVC Members only cruises...2005, 2006, 2007 and booked on 2008. I LOVE DVC cruises because it is all about us. DVC I feel bends over backwards to make sure we all have the time of our lives. I especially love talking to members and hearing their stories about how they use DVC.

The gifts they place in your room every day are wonderful. One year they gave such BIG gifts we had to buy extra luggage to get them all home...:lmao:

I am wondering if they will have a Members cruise in 2009 because....in 2004 they had the Member Homecoming which was the Grand Opening of SSR. We went to that too and it was a blast! I was thinking perhaps they could do something like that again and have it around May for the Grand Opening of Kidani Village??? Just a thought, who knows??

If they do another Members Cruise I am hoping they offer a 7 day cruise or a different itinerary than the past 2 years. Don't get me wrong I love Castaway Cay but the same itinerary 3 years may be enough for me.

Guess we will all have to wait for the annoucement!

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

when do they announce it?

The earliest they would announce it would be on this years cruise which sails 9/21. They might not announce it until after that cruise like they did in 2006. All depends on how they want to sell it.

Are you able to invite guests? or perhaps pay for their stateroom (and be reimbursed by them)? We have good freinds who we'd like to go with, but for some reason they refuse to buy into DVC (even though they go more than us!)

I believe members are allowed to book 2-3 staterooms so yes you could bring friends by booking/paying for them and then being reimbursed by them. Note that because this is a charter you pay all the fees on the day you book. It isn't putting down a deposit and then paying over time like a regular cruise.

It's all available on the DCL website. There are no repositioning cruises scheduled at this time. The DCL schedule has been set through 2009 and it is expected that 2010 dates/itineraries will be announced sometime in October. Rumor has it that the Magic (which does the longer sailings) will be heading to the Baltic in the summer of '10 but that has not yet been confirmed. If so there will be two Transatlantic trips that year as well. I have not seen any mention of the 2009 Member Cruise yet.

Thats great info. I guess I just haven't looked that closely at the DCL website since the only cruise we are going on in 2009 would be the Members Cruise. Its good to know the 2010 dates will be released in Oct.
Between waiting for the announcement about a Members Cruise in 2009 and waiting for an announcement about BLT I might just pee my pants!:lmao:

If you are on the member cruise this year can you book next year's DVC cruise while onboard? Can you also get the 10% discount that they usually give while rebooking onboard?
Just curious. Been on DCL 3 times and would love to do a DVC member cruise- if someone will babysit the kids!!! LOL

Thus far, no you cannot book the next DVC Cruise while cruising on the current DVC Cruise. Opening day for booking has been pretty hectic for all in the past. The date is announced, everyone prepares with their first, second and even third choices for room category. People are poised with multiple telephones in hand and ready to call right on the stroke of booking hour.

I know, I have done it twice, LOL!

And last year people were reporting they called the next day and got at least one of thier top three choices so..... who knows.

If they take a year off due to dry dock it could "drive demand" however.

Well last year if you added on a certain number of points you had to option of either developer points or being automatically booked on this years Member Cruise. You even got to wear a special lanyard that says "I'm booked 2008".

We've always been able to get in for booking on the first day and have also known people who got on the wait list and got on.

I wonder if you pay cash for the member cruise, can you put down a deposit then pay the rest off 90 days prior? Or do you have to pay it all at once? I am considering booking next year.

I've booked 2 MC on cash. You have to pay in full on the day of booking. The good news is, that if you have to cancel you get a refund as long as you are outside the penalty window.

That's awesome! I will definitely be following.

As promised here is the link to the live from thread over on the cruise trip reports board.

We sail on Sunday!

They did a lottery this year for those that had never sailed the DVC member cruise before. I wasn't chosen and I don't remember just when that drawing took place, possibly late October, early November. Then not too long after, fairly close to Christmas, I received a call saying there were openings if I wanted a cabin, but I had to make the decision right then and pay on the spot. It was just too close to Christmas for me to do that. I thougt the timing was really pretty bad. And I was not overly excited about how much more this cruise cost. That being said, I have heard the member cruise is a lot of fun, and I would definitely consider it again.

The next dvc cruise is Sept 13th. You can be booked if you add on so many points. They have not said when they are planning on doing booking.
