We recently purchased our membership through a resale. We had toured while at WDW and had given a current DVC member as a referral.Since we have been assigned the same guide and all the info we gave from that tour is still valid will that DVC member get their gift for a new referral or did we have to purchase at that time?

I'm not sure I understand your question. But if it is "Can I get the member referral discount on a resale purchase?" the answer is

If you are asking if you change your mind and buy through your guide, you should get the referral discount. Sometimes they have promotional prices that expire within a few days of your tour, but I don't think the member referral promotion is one of those.

I believe referral incentives for members referring potential buyers is only valid if they end up purchasing direct through Disney, since the cost of that member incentive is built into the overall DVC marketing costs. However if you find out otherwise please post back to let everyone know.

That member would only get the referral incentive if you purchase direct through Disney, at least that is what I was told when I inquired about it.

If your initial buy-in purchase is done via resale market your friend does not receive any incentive for referring you - that would only be case if you had purchased directly through Disney ( & additionally, it would have also depended upon state your friend resides in ~ some states do not permit referral gift ).

Also, any subsequent add-ons of points that you may purchase after you've purchased your first contract, even if purchased directly from Disney, would not result in referral incentive for your friend.

Thanks for the info... I thought that would probably be the case with it having to be through Disney for the gift to be recieved.

Sorry...I thought I was just being jovial. I was just thinking what their guide's response might be to the question. I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to the OP or their question.

Hey Jim, thanks for responding back. I didnt know if you meant it like that or not because sometimes, people are quick to snap at OP's with their questions IMO.

Oh, believe me, I know what you mean. Thanks for pointing it out -- I answered quickly and didn't even consider that my comment could be taken two ways, but it sure could.
