I apologize if this was discussed on a separate thread that I didn’t see… but I noticed that something seems to have changed on June 3, 2021 related to membership extras… does it mean that you have to have direct points of 150 to get benefits and there is no longer grandfathering in if you purchased resale prior to April 2016 any more? Thanks!

From the website:
Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. Disney and Concierge Collections options are not available for ownership interests not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. after March 21, 2011, and, effective April 4, 2016, Members who have not purchased an ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. will not have access to Membership Extras.
I take the red part to mean anyone who purchased resale prior to 4/4/2016 is grandfathered in. The change that occurred on June 3, 2021 reflects the increase in the number of direct points needed to qualify for Member Extras from that date forward.

I only have 55 points direct (purchased when the minimum was 25 points to get a blue card). I checked online this morning. I still have a blue card.

Ok thanks- wanted to confirm!

I guess the real question is will we still have a blue card in January 2022 after these expire. I purchased 75 points just months before the second increase. I really hope we are grandfathered as has been past history.

I believe “ effective April 4, 2016, Members who have not purchased an ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. will not have access to Membership Extras.” Just means that after that date you must have purchased direct points to have a blue card. Not 150 points- just any # of points. I think the 2016 date is when they took the blue card benefits away from resale only owners.

Once grandfathered, always grandfathered. It's grandfathered by definition. They can't unring that bell, or at least they wouldn't dare try.

Some battles aren't worth fighting. Some lawsuits aren't either.

I take the word "obtain" to mean that once you acquire it, you can't lose it. So, once you obtain it at any previous levels, you get to keep it. (Of course, watch Disney come and prove me wrong!)

If you are talking about the physical card, that date was there so that owners who sell can no longer continue to qualify for too long.

The digital card always expires 3 months after you access so I don’t think that date means anything.

Yes, the physical card. That may have been the original intention but it sure gives them an opening if they choose to use it. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

The real interesting thing will be what happens to your Blue card when the deed with direct points expires. Of course we have 21 years until we find out.

Pretty sure this. The rules only reflect new regulations for sales happening that date forward. Any previous sales that qualified you, still qualify you. I.E. if you HAD a blue card, and you have not sold the qualifying contract, you will continue to have a blue card until you sell the qualifying contract and do not have any remaining contracts or default / fail to pay your dues.

You will lose the blue card status if that is the only contract you have that is qualified

When I sold my qualified contract on my Dec UY last year, as soon as it disappeared from my account, my blue card went too!
