To begin with, I used to pay my dues monthly using my bank account. Well, last year on 4/25/15 I switched over my from monthly payments and paid off the balance using my Disney Visa Credit Card because I was closing my bank account. Well, lo and behold, I went in to pay again on 1/15/16 using my DVCC and I wasn't allowed to get into the online payment feature. I figured the system was just down. I finally got in today and I find out that there is a direct debit for first payment of my dues. WTH! Why the heck would they put a direct debit to a bank account that hasn't been used since 4/1/15 without authorization? :sad2: Needless to say, I'm furious! :headache: More so because I didn't get a chance to go online on 1/15 to make payment. I did pay the balance on my dues using my DVCC but now there is a payment out in limbo somewhere. I did get a survey and I let them know I was unhappy with the site. Has anyone else had this problem with dues payments?

On another note, Chat is useless! They haven't helped me with anything I've contacted them about in the last year. I guess I'm supposed to contact them to discuss the weather. They used to be able to change information on a current reservation and they won't do that anymore. I also got a survey about them that I gladly filled out. As you can't see I'm on a roll here! :mic: Sorry!

Disney/DVC has issues, it just take awhile for them to affect everyone. IMO Chat is a feature put in place so that DVCMC can look like other companies that have chat. Each time that I have used it, I am told to call in.

:earsboy: Bill

Did you contact them that you had wanted to cancel the monthly payments? Or did you just assume that by paying it off early last year that it would cancel. My understanding when I've read the member info about monthly payments is that even if you make other payment during the year it will remain set up until you contact them to cancel the monthly.

I always had monthly payments but this year paid in full because of a gift card promo at my grocery store plus I wanted to get points for my Southwest Visa. My understanding is it will go back to monthly payments next year unless I tell them otherwise.

What did your dues statement say? Did it list the January payment and the remaining payments?

Paying it in full does not cancel the autopay feature. Unless you formally canceled the option, they did nothing wrong and acted as they should have. OTOH, if you formally cancelled it just contact them, pay the remainder and make sure they cancel it going forward and you should be good. If there are additional charges on their end, I'm sure they'll waive them. If there are bank charges, it depends on whether they'll cover those or not.

Thank you all! When I paid the balance off if was because I closed the checking account. The account has been closed since last spring so I'm hoping there will won't be any fees. Although if there are, good luck with getting them from me since I don't have any accounts at that bank anymore. I didn't understand that it would revert back to a previous payment method. I still don't understand why it would without authorization? I didn't realize that I would have to call them also. I have since contacted them and may give them a call in the morning so hopefully the first payment will be resolved soon.

Thanks. No I don't think I did contact them formally. Just switched over method of payment to my credit card which I have on file with them.

It's not "reverting" if you didn't actually tell them you were changing. If you have it set up to do monthly payments you have the option of paying off the balance at any time during the year. But that doesn't change the payment method.

Personally I would be annoyed if it did work that way. I have it set to monthly payments but if I have extra money I might pay it off early. I wouldn't want to have to fax them a check and start all over again the following year.

Everyone is different I guess. I'm adding a credit card not paying with a gift card. That makes it different to me.

Except you don't add a credit card. Those are one time payments.

I'd be surprised if there were any charges and suspect they deal with this scenario a few times every year.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to pay that day using my credit card because I was unable to get in the AD and pay online. At that time, I thought it was a system problem. I've learned something from this, that's for sure. I just don't like that idea that I couldn't get in that day and pay it off. If I paid a day early this would never even happened. Oh well!

You must contact Member Accounting if you want to change to annual billing. I did it back in December for one of my contracts because I'm selling it and didn't want them deducting any monthly payments prior to closing since the buyers are paying the 2016 dues. It was quick and easy.

Personally, I like having the flexibility to start the year with monthly payments and then pay off the dues balance for one or more of my contracts at any time during the year. It eases our cash flow in January since we have several other annual bills due at that time. I would be very unhappy if they took this option away by having a one-time payment result in changing that contract to annual billing instead of monthly. It would also increase the workload for Member Accounting since so many of us take advantage of the flexibility and would be contacting them every year to switch the billing method back to monthly.

You entered into a contract for them to charge you monthly. In return you got to pay your dues later on a proportional basis. Paying off the balance does not alter that contract and does not cancel the ongoing monthly obligation. If you didn't cancel it and you didn't update to a new account, you caused this issue by your approach. As presented, Disney did exactly as they were supposed to.

I don't know if I contacted them. I know I contacted everyone to cease payments to the account since I was closing it. I thought if they were on the list, they would have been contacted. So I've contacted them by email and will call to confirm tomorrow. I just don't know if they can fix it right away. Will know more tomorrow. Thanks.

I hope it gets sorted out quickly. It's quite possible you did call and someone in Member Accounting neglected to make the change. I had been meaning to verify that the dues payment change I requested was made so your post reminded me to do that. I just checked and fortunately in my case, the change was made. I hope everything works out for you too.

My bad then...

I didn't say anything about a gift card.

I know. I was comparing using a gift card as opposed to using a credit card. I figured using a Disney Visa credit card that I already have on file with them to make payment would cancel out the bank account payment method whereas a gift card wouldn't. Sorry.

They won't do the autopay on a credit card, only a direct debit from a bank account.
