Melting Pot

Really? Melting Pot is big with kids birthdays here- they will go with a group of friends to the movies then the parent takes the kids to melting pot- typically they just get the chocolate dessert though. You always see groups of kids/tweens coming in for the dessert.
Its my daughters very favorite restaurant we try to go once a month! We even went to one while we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach---didn't like that one much though...we love the one local to us!
It must differ by location. Our Melting Pot is very couple oriented with very few children. I think my DD was the only one in the whole restaurant that night. Are the kids there during the day after a matinee? That might be a fun thing for my DD.

We have one in our area and had no idea until just this moment it was a chain.

Now I am disappointed.

I have never tried it, although we haven thought about it.

Go...it's fantastic! And it doesn't feel like a chain. Really! I've been three times since it's opened, and the service there has been impeccable each time. The manager is unbelievably sweet...She really has gone above and beyond each time we've eaten there.

It's not a spur of the moment "let's go out for dinner" place, but it is nice for special occasions. I always have a hard time deciding between there and the Apollo...which I think is where we are going Saturday night for our anniversary.

I was hoping that it was a unique little restaurant in our city. My favorite places to eat are self-run mom and pop restaurants.

I'm curious to know what your favorite non-chains are. I am always looking for a good place to eat locally! (have you been to Thai Kitchen on the southside yet? I want to try it, but I don't know anyone who has eaten there. We've been to Thai Thai II a few times, but that place irritates me because it's BYOB, but they charge you $5 to open your bottle!! )

We went before and thought it was ok. My Dh did not like it because he had to cook his main entree. If I were to go again I would get the appetizer, salad, and dessert.

We were given a Melting Pot gift certificate and I was glad I didn't have to pay for it ourselves! We had the Hawaiian (Polynesian) Big Night Out and although the food was good, we decided fondue self-cooking just isn't our thing. It's really popular with a lot of out friends, though. :thumbsup2 I should go over to the sushi thread since I love a good sushi bar over the Melting Pot. lol

No ours is not open during the day- not open for lunch....only dinner.

We love the Melting Pot. We take our kids, who don't run around restaurants, but stay in their seats and make no more noise than a typical adult. I haven't noticed that many kids at ours, even on family nights, but the booths are so private, unless a kid is really misbehaving, no one would really notice them. We never took them as babies, but after about age three or so, they loved it! It's fun and different for them, and you know how kids love to dip stuff!

I don't really understand the issue about cooking your own food. The base is prepared and heated for you. The meat and veggies are all cleaned and chopped into bite-sized pieces. The sauces are all done and served to you. And someone else cleans up the table and kitchen afterwards. :confused3 For me, those are the worst parts of cooking. ;) If all I have to do is poke a bite of food with a skewer and put it in a pot for 2 minutes, I'm all for it!

My dad is a manager of a MP, so I am biased, but I love that place!

I only go once a year or so, but I could eat there every night, lol.
