Melting Pot

We love it!

We never bring our kids though. First of all nearly boiling oil and small children is an accident waiting to happen. Secondly, When I go to a dark, quiet place with my husband I want to talk to him and relax.

I love The Melting Pot! My husband and I did the Big Night Out once, and we were in actual pain, it was so much food. We didn't find out until after that we could have gotten a certificate for the dessert and come back another night to eat it. I was so full I really didn't enjoy it.
Other times I have gone for just cheese and chocolate, and that's much more doable for my appetite.
I love the fiesta cheese fondue so much I found out how to make it myself on You Tube, and it was actually pretty close.

We went once for my 35th birthday while visiting Sis and BIL in Florida. We liked it just because it was soooo different than any other restaurant experience. BUT, if we went again, it would be for the cheese/dessert only. We didn't find the main course to be our favorite part, but wow, the cheese and dessert were fantastic. The kids absolutely loved it also.
I'm surprised people even take little ones there, it felt like a full time job keeping up with timing the meat, etc. Little kids would make it so much harder and that just wouldn't be fun for me.

DH and I have been there once, for our 10th anniversary. At $120 for the meal, that was the last time we were there.

If we ever go back, we'd probably just do the cheese/dessert fondue. :)

I thought it was extremely overpriced and not nearly as good as the fondue I make at home.

I really like the Melting Pot! We usually just get cheese (fiesta!), salad (Caesar), and either the milk chocolate, s'mores, or oreo chocolate fondue. I think the plain milk chocolate is the best-- goes with all of the the dippers the best!
I've only done the entree once-- when it was the Polynesian Big Night Out. I really enjoyed the steak/tuna, but didn't find it necessary. It's a lot of food. It's a long enough meal with just the three courses.

Glad you had a nice birthday!

Last time we went, we decided we would only go back for dessert. We only get the cheese then chocolate fondues anyway (though last time we shared a salad too). We are vegetarian and the cost for the entree with tofu is just outrageous, and we just can't eat that much in one sitting. Last time we decided that it's just not good enough to pay that much for the cheese fondue. And last time the cheese just wasn't very good; DS had one bite and then spent the rest of the meal just eating plain apples and bread b/c he disliked it so much (he's loved it before, and it was the same one). We didn't like it much either. Sigh.

But we do get the chocolate, and have them substitute b/c we don't eat marshmallows and one other thing, so we get more strawberries and bananas...plus, they sprinkle the things with cinnamon, which helps DH's blood sugar not flip out b/c of the chocolate.

At this point this is one of my sticking points. I have to cook my own food. Shouldn't I get a discount??

Don't ever go to a true Korean restaurant! Having a grill on the table is part of the experience.

I searched and searched by no coupons on restaurant.com for our melting pot.

Ours doesn't participate in it either.

Glad you had a nice BD dinner Tina! Our Melting Pot is an hour away. DD&SIL rarely get out alone, so we decided we'd keep the kiddies and gave them a MP GC for her BD last month, so they could enjoyed a nice dinner outing. They said it was a fun experience and had dimly lit corner table to add to ambiance. I was so glad they enjoyed themselves. :goodvibes

Have you tried out this place? We went Saturday night for a birthday celebration. I wasn't sure what to expect other than what others have told me.

It certainly does take a while for the whole dinner and the food was great. We had the Big Night Out and I guess this month's was a French theme. The cheese was good but my favorite was the dessert. White chocolate creme brulee sauce. I purposely didn't have any birthday cake all week so I could indulge Saturday night. It was very worth it for dessert alone!

It's by no means cheap but for a nice night out and actually forcing you to have a few hours of conversation. Our reservation was 6pm and we didn't leave until a bit after 9pm and we had no wait at all for the table.

Only downside and nothing big was the parents letting their two children run up and down the hallway in between their courses. We were off on a private nook and they would stop every so often and see what we were doing or eating. It was kinda like pint size chaperons.

My husband and I have dined there twice. We drove all the way to Columbia,SC to celebrate our anniversary one year! It was great! I can't wait to go back:lovestruc

I was hoping that it was a unique little restaurant in our city. My favorite places to eat are self-run mom and pop restaurants.

why does it matter? Good food is good food. While i do think most chain restaurants are not very good. there are exceptions, this being one of them. The point of going out to eat is to have Good food , good Service and great ambiance, that can be had at the Melting Pot, its a great restaurant. I never understand people who say " i dont eat at chains" i just dont get it.
While you probably wont find me at Applebees anytime soon, I think places like Mortons, the Meltingpot, Ruths Chris and others are still great food, even if they are chains. I have had PLENTY of bad food both in chains and at Mom & pop places. If i hear great reviews about a place, i will check it out, chain or not.

I love the one-of-a-kind places too, but we don't have a mom & pop fondue restaurant here. I'd gladly give it a shot if one opened.:)

We almost went for our anniversary this year, but sadly with the cost of the dinner and baby-sitting it wasn't happening.:sad1: Maybe for my birthday next year.

We just went last night for our anniversary dinner. Our Melting Pot was having a special for the month of October since it was their anniversary month. The Big Night Out was $35.00 per person. We mixed ours up a little and did not get the duck but had salmon and scallops instead with the boullion style. We stuck with the Fiesta Cheese which is our favorite and Smores chocolate.

We go about twice a year. It is our favorite non Disney restaurant. We took our son for the first time for his kindergarten graduation! LOL. He asked to go there instead of Chuck E . Cheese (thankfully!):)

Happy Birthday!

We went a few weeks back, they were running an all you can eat promo. We were a party of 8 and sat at a table with 3 burners, oh my we indulged.

BTW, I have been eating at the Melting Pot since I was a teen and my DD(14) has been eating there since she was a toddler...never out of her seat.

Our family loves the Melting Pot, but we save it for very special occasions and definately not a place for young children. We did fondue at home growing up and it always holds such special memories.

We enjoy eating here as a family and it's also fun with a group of couples. My teens love going here. :thumbsup2

It's such a romantic and intimate restaurant that I felt a bit out of place even taking my DD to it a couple years ago.
.

Really? Melting Pot is big with kids birthdays here- they will go with a group of friends to the movies then the parent takes the kids to melting pot- typically they just get the chocolate dessert though. You always see groups of kids/tweens coming in for the dessert.
Its my daughters very favorite restaurant we try to go once a month! We even went to one while we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach---didn't like that one much though...we love the one local to us!
