Have you tried out this place? We went Saturday night for a birthday celebration. I wasn't sure what to expect other than what others have told me.

It certainly does take a while for the whole dinner and the food was great. We had the Big Night Out and I guess this month's was a French theme. The cheese was good but my favorite was the dessert. White chocolate creme brulee sauce. I purposely didn't have any birthday cake all week so I could indulge Saturday night. It was very worth it for dessert alone!

It's by no means cheap but for a nice night out and actually forcing you to have a few hours of conversation. Our reservation was 6pm and we didn't leave until a bit after 9pm and we had no wait at all for the table.

Only downside and nothing big was the parents letting their two children run up and down the hallway in between their courses. We were off on a private nook and they would stop every so often and see what we were doing or eating. It was kinda like pint size chaperones.

We've been there several times and most recently this past Saturday night for a 50th birthday celebration. We really enjoyed it and you're right....the pace is a little slow but was perfect for our group. There were 10 of us and the birthday boy's wife picked up the tab.:scared1: It is definitely not an inexpensive night out, but was a lot of fun.

We have been once. I would certainly go back, but only for dessert. I found that I prefer to have my meal cooked for me. Those darn potatoes wouldn't cook up for nothing and since we like our meats well done, that too was a pin. I do agree that the desserts are to die for.:goodvibes

We have one in our area and had no idea until just this moment it was a chain.

Now I am disappointed.

I have never tried it, although we haven thought about it.

DH and I considered going to the one in Grand Rapids for our anniversary last month. But it was a busy weekend and it would have been a 1-1/2 hour drive to get there, so we decided to save it for another time. I've looked at the menu on-line though and I know we would enjoy it. We used to fondue a lot here at home. I should dig the pot/forks out and do it again.

I would definitely do it again. If I could stick my head into that pot of milk chocolatey goodness I would! If we were to go again, I'd do just cheese (without the wine in it) and the chocolate.

I think when we go we'll only do the cheese/dessert courses. And maybe a salad too. I think if we did the whole thing we wouldn't have room to really enjoy the dessert part, which for us would be the best and most anticipated part.

Why are you disappointed that it's a chain?

That's what we do when we go. We just get the cheese and the chocolate. It's cheaper, and it's PLENTY of food!! :thumbsup2

We LOVE The Melting Pot!

At this point this is one of my sticking points. I have to cook my own food. Shouldn't I get a discount??

We've actually tried to do fondue at home, thinking it would be cheaper. But once you've gotten all of the ingredients and the dippers, it's actually more expensive to do yourself. So I justify it that way.

I like The Melting Pot but I am shocked that someone let their kids run up and down . It's such a romantic and intimate restaurant that I felt a bit out of place even taking my DD to it a couple years ago.

BTW, Restaurant.com has gift certificates for our local Melting Pot. It's only good on the more expensive meals, though.

I don't guess I really thought of it was a big deal. I did tease my husband that it was my birthday celebration and here I am still "cooking" because I was the one throwing the veggies in the pot and then fishing them out.

I think overall it really wasn't a bad price. It was good quality cheeses for the dipping sauce that we wouldn't normally treat ourselves to and the meats included lobster tail, filet mignon, duck, pepper corn ribeye, chicken and large shrimp.

I'm sure our bill wouldn't have been as much if there wasn't some celebration alcohol as well.

Honestly I wasn't real thrilled hearing the children yelling and carrying out and I know the servers were probably too initmidated by the parents to say anything. I was glad we were off in a seperate corner and only got some of their interest.

I searched and searched by no coupons on restaurant.com for our melting pot.

Love the Melting Pot. I should make it a point to go there soon.

Ours does "Family Night" on Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons. Kids eat free when the adults get the Big Night Out. I think this was their way of attempting to control kids in the restaurant. Incentive for parents (free food) and the 'daters' can avoid kids running around.

We took DS18 there for his 18th birthday. I liked it but I grew up with having fondue quite often. DH didn't like that he had to "cook". The kids all enjoyed it and want to go back but at close to $400 for the 5 of us, not happening all that often. :lmao:

I thought I saw that Restaurant.com has some coupons for Melting Pot. At least in the eastern Ma. area. We don't have one around here.

Melting Pot is probably our favorite restaurant. :)

The Melting Pot is one of my favorite restaraunts. The manager at the one in Coral Springs FL (where we used to live) knew us on a first name basis. Now we live 3 hours from the nearest one and I haven't been in over a year.

We usually get Wisconsin Trio, Coq au Vin and the Yin and Yang chocolate for dessert.
