Mel's Unflashy June 2008 TR: Funnel cakes have fewer calories in FL. Updated 12/2!!

Poor little Gus, hate that he felt so bad. I hate hot weather (unless I'm in the AC!) I haven't read last year's TR so I'm assuming he doesn't do well with the heat. I hope that the day improved!

Hi`ya Mel!!! :goodvibes great update missy!! The videos were a cool bonus! sorry about Gus feeling sick...you were a great mommy nurse! is he the same one you took on the birthday trip last year? I think he was now that I remember it...just a differant name..:cool2:

All caught up! Now let's see if I can remember everything I wanted to say. ;)

But, the one place I relive the childhood I NEVER had is Disney World.

I hear that! I always wanted to go to Disney World when I was a kid. I didn't even get to another state until Middle School when I got to go on a field trip to King's Island (one state over). DH always tells the kids on Christmas and Birthdays how lucky they are that mommy had such a pitiful childhood since she's trying to make up for it through them. :rotfl:

They are best friends. They never fight. Bob and I are waiting for the first time they do. Should be a big one.

Where do I sign up for kids that don't fight?!? My kid's were fighting before DD could even talk. The sad thing is DS asked to have a baby (that's not why we had one, I'm not insane) and really looked forward to her arrival but I don't think he anticipated her getting more attention than him when she was an infant and he's still paying her back for it.

So, that’s the intros. Anyone want to see a pic? We’re real cute. Here ya go.

100_1091.jpg

You weren't kidding! Nice lookin' family! ;)

This one time...at band camp...

You went to band camp too???

I never actually went to band camp but DH and I say that all the time.:rotfl:

This is a photo of some of the things I packed that morning. It doesn’t look too bad in the photo. In reality it was 12 square feet of stuff. Yes, I needed it all. ::yes::
100_1183-1.jpg

Um, I don't think that looks like much. We took our Odyssey too and had twice that packed in the back. I truly fell in  with Disney when DH was making fun of how much stuff we had and I was feeling so bad about it in front of the bellman who helped unload our van at AKL and the guy was so nice and truly acted like it was no big deal.

We stopped for the day in Charlotte, NC. Why did we stop in Charlotte? You don’t know? You have NO business reading this TR if you don’t know that I am a HUGE Nascar fan! No, really, go away.

Ok, so now that I’m done with that. I can tell you that I am a Kevin Harvick fan. He’s the #29 Shell Oil car. He won the Daytona 500 in 2007. The team he drives for is RCR. He hasn’t won a race in a while, but I’m no fair-weather fan. I’ll keep cheering for him. (Psssst, I also cheer for Jr. because he’s cute, but don’t tell Kevin that.) My DH, Bob, set up a machine (can’t tell you what kind) at the RCR engine shop a couple of years ago and has friends there so I **might** get a tour. Yeah, I know, you don’t care. But, you’ll read my report anyway right? I have pictures of shiny cars!!!

Not a fan here. Really we aren't fans of racing at all. Which is sad since we live in Indianapolis. My brother, bil and mother are though. Which means I saw Jr. win on Father's Day. :rotfl: My mom was a huge Dale fan though years ago. One of my favorite Christmas memories was when she first became a fan I went to a racing store and got her a duffel bag and hat with Dale's numbers and when she opened it she literally screamed really loud. She's hard to buy for so it felt really good to hit one out of the park.

Never again. Bob says.

DH said that after we drove too. Then, we flew down the next time and now he says he's changed his mind. It happened to be the week of the Formula 1 race here in Indy and we had serious trouble getting home.

I hadn’t eaten anything like this in weeks though, since I’d started W.W. They were delicious but right after we ate, I felt bad. We finished up, paid the bill and made our way back over to the hotel.

I was by now feeling very nauseous. You guys remember the last trip? Yeah? Well, that’s what happened. I barfed. Really. It wasn’t too bad though. As soon as I was done, I felt WAY better. I know that’s gross information but you guys know that I have this issue with being sick on vacation so I thought it was sort of important to the story. I crawled into pjs, brushed teeth vigorously and tucked into bed. I slept great and the next morning Bob got me two ginger ales and I had toast at the awesome, free buffet. All better. Really. I was not sick AT ALL the whole rest of the trip.

I did WW back before I had my oldest. I lost over 40 pounds and was eating really healthy. Then my dad went mushroom hunting. I love fried mushrooms so when he offered me some I couldn't resist. I took them home fried them up and ate them with lunch before going to work 2nd shift. Long story short, I had to leave work I was so sick. I still can't believe I was able to drive there and back with all the time that I spent in the bathroom that day.

And then we packed everyone up for a drive down to the MOST highly recommended thing on my PTR!!!

South 21 Drive-In!!

Our plan was ONLY to order drinks and onion rings at the South 21 since that was what was recommended to us. Alton Brown actually went to this place on his special “Feasting on Asphalt 2.” He said the onion rings were awesome too!

I'm an so envious that you got to stop at a single place that Alton Brown stopped at!!!! We  us some Good Eats. I'm so glad he keeps showing up on more and more shows. The finally figured out how much he is loved.

Did I ever tell you that my DH is an EMT and works at the Indy Motor Speedway for races? Yep, he'll be at the Brickyard 400 in a few weeks. But, instead of watching the race, he'll be dealing with all the stupid spectators who drank way too much and then fell down and went boom!:rotfl:

Neat! My friend was telling me the other day how she tried to climb over a fence and got hurt a year or two ago. Your hubby is probably the one that had to help her drunk butt. :rotfl:

We've got a drive-in called Dog-n-Suds. My typical order: Foot-long coney cheese dog, onion rings and a large rootbeer :drinking1 - Awesome!! They shut it down in the winter. When it opens up in March, they have police direct traffic it's so nuts!

Where the heck is that? I love their cream soda and root beer. I thought they all closed except for the one at the zoo for some reason.:confused3

When you get to FL you get all excited....then it’s HOURS till Disney.

I remember that last part seems to last forever. When will they ever get that teleporter up and running?

I wish now that I had photographed the LONG LONG LONG walk to our room like V did. She was right. It couldn’t have been farther away. It was down THREE long hallways. We walked those hallways several hundred times during our week there. I cannot believe you can walk for that long and still be inside the same building! And though the walk was long, the room was gorgeous. I really liked it alot. Did I photograph it? Nope. Don’t know why.

We had a really long walk when we stayed at AKL. Then when we stayed at BWI we were just around the corner from the elevator. That elevator sounded like someone was revving up their motorcycle all night long. Could I just have a medium walk please?

I have nothing but good things to say about Garden Grocer. Very highly recommend them!!!

I'm looking forward to trying them on our next trip.

The kids loved the slide and swimming! Being in a car for 11 hours will do that.
b80f.jpg

We actually never tried the slide. The rain had other plans for us that day. It's probably better that we didn't though. My kids are afraid of clowns for some reason.

I turn around. On the Boardwalk, surrounded by hundreds of strangers and start yelling at the blond lady and her husband who are walking away from me....
“JILL!!!!!!!!!!!!! JILL!!!!!!!!!!!” Her husband leans into her and is whispering something like, “uh, there’s a crazy woman screaming your name....”
She turns and I’m like, “Wait, wait, wait!!” And I’m shuffling over to her ***side note*** I don’t run. Not unless I’m being chased by zombies...maybe. :sad2:

She waits for me and Bob to arrive and I say, “Are you Jill? From the Focker Board?” She says, “yep.” I say, “I’m Mel!!! Hi!!!” We hug. She introduced her hubby and I introduced mine. They were a cute couple. She said they were leaving on Tuesday. I really hoped to see them again, but we never did. Oh well. It was cool. Did I take a picture? Nope. Why? I don’t know.

I say to Bob as we walk away, “Wow! I can’t believe I’ve already had my first Focker sighting and we’ve only been here 2 hours!!” He says, “Uh, I had my first Focker sighting....not you.”
Ok, Bob. Jeez. :rotfl2:

I'm sorry, I have to give credit to Bob for this sighting. ;) I think the men like to look extra hard for stuff like this just so they can rub it in when they find it.

What a neat tour! Sounds liek fun, minus Gus feeling bad. I need to remember one of those spray fans before I go, for $17 I think I'd sweat.

I didn't take ours last time (I have a green one from a summer clearance years ago that I never used) but then we waited in line for Splash Mountain without one. I ran and got one before getting back in line and man was that second wait much nicer although just as long. :cool1:
===============================
I'm gonna start on your last TR now Mel. Have a good one!

Shhh Mel. I'll be quite. Just wanted to tell you that I have finally read up to date and am loving your TR. I do not have much knowledge of NASCAR (can I still read along), but it was cool seeing the pictures. I am glad you liked BW (so far). Those rooms do have quite a treck, but I too really enjoyed the place. Too bad the train tour is so SUNNY. The conductor should try to lead people to shade whilst giving his speeches. I have thought of doing that tour with my ds, before he is too cool for trains. ;)

ACK! It's really been 2 days since you updated? Where have I been?!

So, I drag poor, barely conscious Gus to the bathroom and issue orders. Get dressed. Go pee. Brush teeth. Stand still so I can put the sunblock on. He’s thrilled.
:rotfl: Sounds like most mornings with Leo!
Ed explained that the train only lines up with the train station twice. Once for this tour and for publicity photos. That’s because every other stop they make at that station is to load passengers and she’s not lined up (the engine) with the building then. She’s way forward of the building.
Oh wow - I never thought of that! Okay, confessed train geek here...

The Walt and Roy are a matched set. They are consecutively numbered. They are the only remaining consecutively numbered steam trains in operation in the world. COOL!
... and yet I'm embarassed to say that I've never paid attention to which train I've been riding. I will now! :thumbsup2
It gets up to 150 degrees in there. Plus whatever the humidity is on that particular day.
Rather like my bathroom in August.
Gus was looking pretty rough around the edges. I asked him if he wanted to get off the train and get a cold drink. He said, “YES.”
That's when you know it's bad. :sad2:
Here is Gus with his first funnel cake of vacation.

100_1274.jpg
Nothing like some funnel cake to make a boy feel better! :goodvibes

Only if you get you get caught. Otherwise, why yes, yes you can take a drink out of the park.

Trust me...NO ONE comes between me and my last Margarita of the night...:cool2:

I'd love the check out the trains tour - I think Michael would love it. BUT there's no way he'd ever get up that early...:sad2: Amatuer...Hmmm...that doesn't look right...Is is Amateur? :confused3

Right, if you get caught you CAN'T have the last Margarita! ;) I would caution you about the tour if you have a child that bores easily. Ed was awesome. The tour was really cool and it held my interest almost the whole time but there were some very techincal parts and I think a little guy would be bored. Having said all that, I think the age limit was 10...:confused3
Amateur...is correct I believe.

That's too bad that Gus was having problems with the sun.

I may have to look into the trains tour on a future trip.
Yes, he doesn't like the heat but he is usually pretty good with it. Might have been a combo of the heat and getting up early.

Great Update Mel! How much did that tour cost if you don't mind me asking!!
I think it was $35 each. I think we got 10% off too for being DVC members. :)
Awww, that's too bad that Gus had problems during the train tour.
Thanks for worrying!

I wish I had let Scott go on this. Would have been a little cheaper as we had AP's this year. Probably will not be renewing.
If Joshua could handle the "lecture" he and Scott would LOVE to do this and definately want the Pin for the Lanyard.. Heck Sara would do the tour JUST FOR THE PIN.

You faked us out Mel... Putting this out so late in the day... Miss Janet is not gonna be happy !!! No Ma'am :rotfl2:

"Splash Mountain" Fast Passes..:confused3 everybody KNOWS you are supposed to go to SPACE MOUNTAIN FIRST :lmao: :lmao:

Sorry about Gus.. does not handle the heat well does he. I hope he had a better week that it started out.
Gus did great the rest of the time. He just had a bad day. I think Joshua would be fine. (there was lots to look at while the talking was going on so if he didn't want to tune in he would be fine I think.)
I didn't post it late to mess with Janet. It took me ALL day to write it! I'm slow.......
I DID GO TO SPACE MTN FIRST, KATT....silly.

No I am NOT happy. New rule, installments are not permitted to be posted between 8pm and 10:30 EST.;) :lmao:
That tour look awesome. Jim and Jimmy would love it, maybe next year:thumbsup2

Glad Gus was feeling better after getting wet down and something to eat.:thumbsup2
Ok, no more updates unless you are awake and Jo is not golfing or trampolining. :rotfl2: The tour was cool. Jim and Jimmy will love it but as I said, I think you had to be 10 or older....not sure.

oohhh, i didn't even know about the train tour!! my 2 sons would luv that!
glad he was feeling better !!

can't wait to hear more!!:thumbsup2
Thanks Rach! I think the funnel cake fixed him!

Sorry about Gus!!! What a way to start things off.

Focker Exhibit C - definitely my DH! :lmao:
Thanks girl! :lovestruc

What? Huh?

What a neat tour! Sounds liek fun, minus Gus feeling bad. I need to remember one of those spray fans before I go, for $17 I think I'd sweat.
Ha! :rotfl2: Tell me if you think that in a month....

Aww...poor guy! Maybe it was the early awakening??? The tour seems really neat though, I didn't even know it existed! Can't wait to hear about the rest of the day!

~Beka~
Hi Beka! :wave2: I don't know...maybe?

Mel I love how you wrote the start to this installment :rotfl2:
Thanks Jo. LY

Cool, does your other DS and DH not like trains so much?
No, they like them but it was our ALONE thing. They do something alone later on....
:rotfl2: It sounds like a lovely tour, how many people were on it?
We had maybe 12 or 15 people.
Poor thing, glad you knew what to do!
He is such a trooper.
Oh I love funnel cake, never tried it with strawberries though!
Highly recommend, though if you don't want whipped cream you MUST tell them as they just automatically put it on and I can't have it... What a lovely keepsake :goodvibes
thanks! it's cool, right?
Errrr no Janet I'm sure there is a rule about no posting whilst Jo is asleep :rotfl2:
yes, from now on no posting unless I'M AWAKE....ha!

That is too bad that Gus was feeling sick and you had to cut the tour short.

That pin is really neat. :thumbsup2
Thanks Lessa! I love special pins! Wait till you see how many I have in Aug!!!

Morning Mel!! Forgot to say sorry about Gus and the heat/sun!!Yes me must not post updates when Jo is sleeping!!:rotfl2:
Rosie, you are so funny!

My DH did the train tour in December when we were there for our anniversary trip. He said it was awesome. He's really into trains though, so he definitely understood everything the engineer was telling them. I hope Gus still had fun, even though he didn't feel well. And I hope he was okay the rest of the day!
He was, thanks Jodi!

It's good being your bestest Rosie as you stick up for me
::yes::

Hi MEl,
My DH is from MI. We're leaving in 6 days to go visit!:yay:
Oh and you can call me Cindy

Nope. I-75 through GA takes that honor. Trust V. ;)

Have you ever driven in western oklahoma? Flat, no trees and fields of cotton or wheat. Need I say more?
Nope. OK is flat? Not O.K...
Thanks for reading Cindy! :welcome:

Good update. Too bad about the sun and heat, but glad he got better relatively quickly. The heat got the better of me one day too.
Thanks Kristin! Keep reading! popcorn::

HI Mel, I love backstage tours, I'll have to look into the train one.

I hope DS got over not feeling well, though I guess since he was eating funnel cake, the worse is over.

And Tracy that was too funny:rotfl2:
I forgot to mention that:
T, that was Hilarious about me being an official Focker!
Mo, thanks for reading!

Hi MEL! I'm on board! You so have to go check out my TR! You will see we are too much alike!

We live near LMS and eat at Sticky Fingers too much! My fav. place!
Thanks for reading! :welcome: Sticky Fingers=yummy

Gotta catch up---heard it's great so sorry I'm late!
Welcome TE-Supreme Leader. You can show up whenever you want!

Poor little Gus, hate that he felt so bad. I hate hot weather (unless I'm in the AC!) I haven't read last year's TR so I'm assuming he doesn't do well with the heat. I hope that the day improved!
Gus is tough! He perked right up!

Hi`ya Mel!!! :goodvibes great update missy!! The videos were a cool bonus! sorry about Gus feeling sick...you were a great mommy nurse! is he the same one you took on the birthday trip last year? I think he was now that I remember it...just a differant name..:cool2:
Yes, he's the same kid. New nickname... Miss you, where ya been?

Jen, thanks for reading! You are right about them being too sunny. I should email them and suggest that!

ACK! It's really been 2 days since you updated? Where have I been?!
I wondered....

:rotfl: Sounds like most mornings with Leo!
Gus is NOT a morning person.
Oh wow - I never thought of that! Okay, confessed train geek here...
You should do this then V!

... and yet I'm embarassed to say that I've never paid attention to which train I've been riding. I will now! :thumbsup2
::yes::
Rather like my bathroom in August.
HA, V!!!
That's when you know it's bad. :sad2:
Yep! I agree. As soon as he said that I KNEW!!
Nothing like some funnel cake to make a boy feel better! :goodvibes
Yes. Funnel cake fixed my boy!

Ok you people! I am starting the next update. It will likely take me tonight and most of tomorrow. So, no one can sleep till I post it.
Hope this doesn't inconvience you...

MEL

Oh, man, I saw you posted and thought it was an update!

I'm at work. I'll be up 'til 6AM. Can you have it done by then??:rotfl:

Ha HA, caught up!

I went to band camp. :rolleyes1

Glad you only got sick the one time - yep, I was on your last TR. :scared:

I keep trying to tell you that I have a friend who flies for Hendrick, but you never bite. :rotfl: I HAVE CONNECTIONS, WOMAN. :rotfl2:

I do NOT follow Nascar, but I know when the race is here in NH, because
we see her. :rotfl2:

I also, sorry, have no interest in trains, but it looked vaguely interesting. :rotfl: I'm glad Gus seemed to recover. ;)

Ok, CE, I'm biting. What can your connections do to help me with my addiction??? :cool1:
Gimme Gimme

You went to band camp....do you use that expression then?

MEL:banana:

MEL:banana:

Well... What do you want? Seriously, I think she could help with a lot, but I don't know what you'd want, not being a fan. ;)

I was an angel at band camp, but that's likely because it was when I was quite young. :rotfl:

I'm taking some No Doze right now! Do they still make that stuff?

I don't like that new rule :sad2: :rotfl2:

You've got 5 hours till I go to bed popcorn:: :rotfl: LY Mel!

Well, Mel, you missed Jo again. It's been 5 1/2 hours now. Guess she'll just have to catch up tomorrow because we want an update TONIGHT!!!!!

Hmmm...yet another tour I might need to try. I really don't have that much interest in trains, but it sounds interesting and a good way to get in the park early early!

Hello. Welcome back to the first park day! When I left you guys we were chowing down on funnel cakes and had just met up with Bob and Goofy. Goofy is mad at me. Not in the TR, in real life. He’s just discovered that I named him Goofy in the TR and he’s really upset. Upset enough to lobby for a name change. He wants to be called SlinkyDog. (how this is better than goofy I don’t know :sad2:) So, I will change his name to SD. This will be confusing for some of you, I understand. Sorry!

I managed to get the FP’s for Space Mtn. I believe that it was around 10:30 am at this point. I think they said to return at 12:30 pm. I ran to meet Ed and then over to the Splash Mtn. standby line to find the boys. Bob was thinking! He sent SD back through the line to find me and bring me to where they were. The line was curving back and forth outside but the boys were inside the long tunnel that goes down to the loading area inside. So, I basically didn’t wait too long. We got on board when they called us and we rode SD’s favorite ride! He loves the music and the drop. Here’s our cool photo from the ride. I didn’t redneck it on the tv, I DID buy it, but I had to redneck the photo at home because the scanner is broken!

101_0008.jpg

This ride down, we meandered to the photo desk and I managed to almost get into a fistfight with a little Malaysian man. He REFUSED to wait in the line. I said, “Excuse me, the line is here...” The photo people said, “Sir, Sir you need to go over and get in the line.” Blank stare. I say (while pantomiming), “the line, over there, you GET IN, move, hellooooo?”
Nothing. I get nothing.
It was hot. There were ALOT of us waiting and I almost lost it. I’m not proud.
He was still standing at the counter being ignored when I was paid and gone. Oh well. Sometimes, I think I’m just too worried about the rules.... :scared:

We made our way outside into the sun. The boys decided to visit the candy shop. I wanted to go get some cash so I ducked into the walkway to Adventureland to use the ATM. On my way back to the candy shop I noticed an ice cream stand.
1. This is the FIRST Itzakadoozie pop of my trip. Pay attention people. There will be more. ::yes::

When I purchased it, the girl said I was the first person all day to say it correctly.
:rotfl2:
The kids got some sugar and we walked over to Tomorrowland to ride Space Mtn. Before we jumped on we grabbed FP’s for Buzz.
Space Mtn. is my LEAST favorite ride. I always ride though, so I don’t disappoint the kiddos but OOOOHHH. I hate it. SKEERRY!
When we exited the ride, we made a trip to the potty and then got onto our favorite ride in Tomorrowland.
TTA!!!!
Tomorrowland Transit Authority! It’s the best ride for pics of my boys! I have some then and nows...

They’ve grown up quite a bit! :guilty: We rode Buzz and then ran over to grab some FP’s for BTMRR for the kids later. We had a plan! We were going to exit the park and go have a swim. It was around 2:30 pm by this point. The sun was beating into my brain and I was hoping for some real food. We used the bus to return to the BWV. It was a long, long wait again for the bus and it was PACKED. There wasn’t a seat available so we stood. Again, this is a recurring theme for our whole trip! The boys had a quick lunch in the hotel room. Then everyone suited up and we had a swim. It felt great after that hot morning in the park. I have pics of Bob doing the waterslide but he forbid me to post them. :sad2:
Sorry!

I forgot to post this in the last update but this is a gecko that Bob saw when he and SD rode the boat from Poly over to meet us...

Tune in next time for our evening plans...
