Melamine plates - harmful??

I just bought a couple of cute plates for my daughters. Now I read on the back that they are made of Melamine.

I thought melamine was harmful? Should I return them?

I bought some birthday plates from Target too! I'm going to look and see if my plates have it too. Yikes! Part of me thinks they would probably be okay but extreme temps like ice cream might release the stuff. I don't know. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

ETA- My plates are paper. (Coffee hasn't kicked in.) I responded before I looked at your link. I think I'd take those plates back though. Just me.

Sorry, early. I don't think letting her play with the plates is going to hurt her.
