Megan's Bay on your own

I am wondering if anyone has comments on doing Megan's Bay on your own. The cost of the excursion is not the issue. . . . .we just want to be able to depart and return on our own schedule.

I presume cabs are readily available to take us there. What about getting back? The thought of being stuck and then missing the ship is what worries me.

Hey Piper: I think that you'll find plenty of taxis waiting at Megan's Bay when ever you wanted to leave. Another idea is to tell the driver when you think you might want to head back to the ship, and he might return about that time. Grabbing taxis is easy in St Thomas.

There are other nice beaches than Megans Bay on St. Thomas....yes MB is beautiful but we found it a hassle and costly. First the taxi ride, then admission to the beach, then renting chairs (which by the way you must leave an additional deposit for in an area away from beach). Then you have to lug you own chairs down the beach and then bring them back when you are done....then go back up to the office to get your deposit back....way too much work for my vacation time!!! Plus, as hubby and I were strolling the beach we saw many shady looking people eyeing the belongings of others.

We have done Sapphire Beach Club a few time on our own (DCL also does a beach day here, or at least they used to) and it is a 20 minute cab ride (standard, non negotiable $9 per person), no admission cost to the beach...loungers are $5.00 each and someone sets them up for you. Beach is beautiful with clean bathrooms, snack bar, bar, etc.

Plus, they have iguanas running around that we love to look at!!!
