I just moved here and I'm definitely in awe of living 10 minutes from Disney so I have been there frequently. Since, I don't know very many people here I have gone mostly by myself. The thing is I'd love to meet some characters get pictures and stuff but I cannot rummage up the courage to go alone!! It just seems really awkward to me (20 yrs old) to wait in line with parents and children to go see a character alone. Has anyone else done this? Is it okay? Does it get less weird each time? Any tips on how to ease the awkwardness?

I know this is weird question!! :lmao:

ohhh lucky you living so close! I went solo last year and at first i didnt want to stand in line but i quickly got over it. Im 19 and i figure you will most likely never see any of those people again and frankly who cares what they think. You are paying money just like them to have a good time and take part in all the disney magic so why hold back?! and honestly the CM's are really nice and always willing to take pictures.

I went to the disney visa meet and greet last year and it was a blast. my own photo session with minnie and goofy! They were dancing with me and it was really fun! The 2 cm's and the 2 characters were really a blast! Go ahead and stand in line to get some pictures with the characters. Have fun!!! Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice. It just helps to know other people my age have done it before!

Last Mar I was at WDW for 3days/nights solo while a friend and her DD were off at a cheering competition.
I knew they didnt want to do character brkfsts (we did do the castle princess lunch together) so I booked Crystal Palace and O'Hanas brkfst solo. I had the Mickey gang and the Pooh gang for pictures and autographs.

Not planning character meals for my April solo week but most likely for my Nov solo birthday week I'll book them again. Hey they all need to celebrate w/me!, right?

Go for it. I am 33 years old and I waited in line to see characters by myself. I was with my DH and DM and we really enjoyed having our pictures taken with the characters. We always make several character meal reservations and enjoy everyone of them. Now, I won't wait in a long line, because I'm inpatient. My favorite picture is when I saw Rafiki and Timon by themselves in Adventureland and ran over to be first in line for pictures. My DH and I were celebrating our Anniversary and were wearing our Anniversary buttons and Rafiki and Timon both "kissed" me, that was so exciting.:cool1:

Go and have fun. Make a game out of it, to see how many characters you can meet and have pictures with in one trip.

I did a solo trip in '04 at 25 and did TONS of character greets :D I did run into a couple of CMs who seemed to be bothered by doing my photo for me, but I quickly relized that asking the family behind me to do it in exchange for them getting a full family photo worked great!

I'm in my 50s.

Usually my husband is in line with me, but there was one time (at Disney's California Adventure) when he and some friends went on an attraction (it was a soft opening for Monster's Inc.) and I waited in line to get some character autographs. I had no hesitation whatsoever about doing that, and even told them to go on the ride without me.

After they came out Cruella deVil was walking past. My friend stopped her and said she should talk to me, and Cruella acknowledged that we had had a very pleasant conversation about puppies in Pennsylvania.

Go for it! I recently returned from a solo first-trip to WDW and had a great time meeting the characters and taking photos with them. The CMs (and even a few bystanders) were very helpful in taking photos for me using my digital camera. Also, I ended up with over 80 Photopass images. As long as you're lining up like everyone else, there should be no problem getting your photo taken with whichever character(s) you want.

Here Here!!! Go For it!! I did last year as well on my first solo trip and i'm 38!! If no photopass folks are available, then i ask the person behind me. That happened to me at the Villians Mix-N-Mingle at MNSSHP. Then then i ask if i can return the favor!

Have Fun!!

I definitely know how you feel! I'm 19 and I just moved to Anaheim and I haven't met anyone yet so I've been going to the park solo and at first I didn't want to get my pictures taken with the characters because I too thought it'd be weird. Then last Friday I had the great idea of getting Ariel to sign my best friend's birthday card so I waited in line, and yeah it felt a little weird due to the fact that the woman in front of me kept turning around and looking at me weird. I wasn't planning on getting my picture taken with Ariel, I just wanted to get my best friend's card signed but after she insisted I was like oh what the heck, and it wasn't that bad! The CM was really nice and took the pic for me. Then on Monday I wandered into Mickey's house in Toontown through the back from Minnie's house not thinking he was in there because the front was blocked off by ropes and when I got all the way to the back I was a little shocked to see him and was like uhhh I think I went the wrong way and the CM's laughed and were like come on we'll take your pic for you and I was like ok and after that it hasn't felt so weird. And even if there are no CM's around to take the pic for you, you can always ask someone in line! Yesterday I jumped in line to get a picture with Mickey in his Year of a Million dreams outfit only to discover there was no CM with him so I asked the lady in front of me if she could take the picture for me and she was more than happy. :)

i say go for it i live near WDW as well im not rich by any means so whenever i want my disney fix i got to DTD i eat lunch alone i people watch do some shopping i love it!

If I worried about what people thought of me, I would never leave the house:rotfl2: Stand in line and stand proud!:thumbsup2 I am 19, turn 20 in oct and I can't believe I am going to be 20! I still feel like I am 10:rotfl:
