medieval dinner

HI there, we are heading to DL in 38 sleeps ...my dh and son are interested in doing the medieval dinner while we are there, and i am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it...as of right now, me and my 2 dd's are not interested, but thought i would ask what others think and if it is worth it..anything you can tell me about it would be so appreciated...thanks

It's fun in a cheesy kind of way. The first time I did it (I was about 17 I think), I thought it was a little silly and didn't really think much of it. I gave it another shot a couple years ago and decided to really try and get into it (Well, a buddy and I decided to be slightly obnoxious actually and surprisingly it made it more fun 'Hey Wench, where's my grog!', 'Hey Knight, cut his head off!' ). It was a lot of fun as a result. The key is to not take it serious at all and get into the spirit of the show.

It's a chain and we just went for the first time in Dallas last week. It was $50 for adults and $49 for kids. They gave a 15% AAA discount and kids ate free in March- thank goodnesss!! You can upgrade to a royalty seat $10 per person more. It includes a front row or 2 seat, a program, dvd and a banner.
They have a gift shop full of bigger flags and light up stuff. They will also take your picture with the King or you can dress up and have your family's picture taken.
The food is just ok. Tomato Soup with Garlic bread, 1/2 a baked chicken, 1 rib and half a baked potato (no butter or other toppings) and an apple turnover for dessert. No forks aloud. DD loved that part.
But the food is not why you go. You are put on a "team" when you check in. That is the color of you knight that you chear for. The show itself was really cool. Jousting, dancing Lippisaner stallions, a falconer, other knoghtly games. Our knoght threw DD a red carnation and she literally melted!!

It was expensinve, it was fun, the food was mediocre. DH said he is glad we did it but it will be a one time thing.

I have to say I always had fun at the show. The food is ok, but the experience is fun. I have to say my favorite part has been the horses. If your girls like horses that is a good selling point! You can see them perform and see the horses in their stables after the show I always loved that part.

I would say that the royalty seating isn't worth it. All the seats in the house are going to be good. Because we were in the first row we actually had the glass partition top at about eye level which was very distracting and made it hard to take pictures. I had been almost as excited to go to this as I was to
Disneyland and felt very let down by it. I don't mind people tying to make money but my husband and I walked away feeling like that's all they cared about. Be aware that you really don't need to be there a whole hour early if you don't want to.

We had a great time when we did this! We really enjoyed the show, the food was good and the atmosphere was fun as well. It's not something we do very often but it was a lot of fun. We were just looking at pics last night and talking about it, we did this last in 06.

We went during our last stay to DL in December and we had a good time. We thought the food was good, more then enough food thats for sure. It was a fun experience, not something you would want to do often. I would go and give it a try

We got there 30-40 minutes before the show and it was enough time to walk around the shops, watch people be knighted, see the horses, buy a souvenir.

I thought they put on a pretty good show. I looked at it as 2 solid hours of entertainment that happened to have food, rather than a dinner that included a show. If I remember, soda and beer were included (I asked nicely and they brought us a diet Pepsi and Sprites from the bar instead of the standard Pepsi for all).

Check around for coupons to cut the cost down. I think we had a buy-adult-kid-free one last summer.

As others have said, it is fun...something to do once. We enjoyed the show and the food was decent. We paid to be royalty and I would agree it is not necessary. All seats seemd like they would be good. You may have a better chance of getting that flower from one of the knights if you are seated towards the front At the end we did get sand, or whatever that is they have in the arena, flung up from when one of the horses ran by. Luckily it was at the end and we didn't have any food in front of us. They will try to sell you photos and such also. All in all, it was a good time.
