Medication allowed on plane?

Thought I would get a quicker answer here than calling SouthWest. I am leaving Monday out of Buffalo. I recently came down with a slight case of bronchitis and wondering if they will allow me to carry my inhaler on the plane. Not sure if security will allow it when I go through the checkpoint.

southwest does not make up the rules.
TSA does.
and you are allowed to take all medications both prescription and over the counter.
if its under 3.4oz which i assume it is you can just toss it in with your other liquids if it will fit.
if it doesn't fit or its more than 3.4oz then you just have to declare it at security.
i have a couple prescription eye drops and usually they fit in with my other liquids so i don't have to take the extra step to declare it.

Yes, no problem. They even allow quart-sized contact lens solution, and gallons of distilled water for CPAP users. All AOK by the TSA!

By the way, WN will just send you direct to the TSA for answers, and not answer them themselves.

DON'T put medications in your checked luggage.
what if your checked luggage is lost or delayed?
then you would not have your antibiotics and would not get better.
i would never put any medication not even over the counter ones in my checked luggage.
what if you get a headache mid light and you put your advil in your checked luggage?

I would also carry antibiotics with you on the plane rather than put in checked luggage. We all hope our luggage will make it, but you never know when it will decide to land at some other airport that you're not at. I've read instances where lost luggage can take at least a day or 2 to retrieve. Had that happen to DW once, luckily it was on our way home when her luggage got lost.

Yes, but becareful and don't yell, hey honey do you have the bag of drugs while standing in security. My mom did that once to me and it caused quite a ruckus. LOL. I always care my medicines with me.

No, no, no! Keep your meds with you! You don't want to risk the airlines misplacing your luggage, and there you are, without your meds. I probably look like a walking pharmacy, due to all of my allergy/asthma meds, but I have never been questioned by a TSA agent. I actually do put a few extra pills in my checked luggage, just in case I somehow lose my purse. But I have nothing expensive or narcotic.

I always carry my inhaler for asthma, epi pens and other meds (all with proper prescription labels) on the plane with me in my purse or whatever. They let them through with no probs.
I agree with PP that you should carry your antibiotics on with you as well.

Medication should NOT be put in checked luggage.

Checked luggage sometimes gets delayed or outright lost.

Checked luggage experiences often very large variations in temperature (think sitting out on the tarmack in the summer or the winter, or in the cargo hold of the plane) and pressure (cargo hold of plane).

Some of the temperatures checked baggage may affect (hot or cold) can have a negative or even severely damaging effect on medications. Most medications have safe ranges they are supposed to be kept in. Checked baggage often ends up outside this range for periods of time (either too cold and/or too hot; sometimes both in the same trip !).

Federal Dept of Transportation, TSA and CATSA regulations all allow medications in your carry-on luggage, and they are NOT subject to the 3-1-1 rule and allowance -- however if they exceed the rule/allowance you are supposed to declare them at the start of screening. If you have a large amount of medications and/or other medical supplies/equipment, you are even allowed a separate bag for ONLY medical things, which does not count towards your carry-on limit. i travel with such a bag whenever I fly. One of the keys is that ONLY medical things go in it -- no extra clothes, no swimsuits, etc. And yes, the airline is allowed to check.
