My 11yo DD has been sick on and off. We are now on the 3rd week. Symptoms are low grade fever, sore throat, nauseous but no vomiting and fatigue.

This is her worst allergy season, she's taking zyrtac, flonase and has a maxair inhaler for those.

We went to the Dr last week and she said she didn't really see anything but did put her on a Ceftin an antibotic for possiby sinus infection, she hasn't completed the perscription yet.

I've got a Dr appointment for her in the morning. She called from school today feeling bad again (she's missed 3 days in the last 2 weeks) . The nurse said she didn't have a temp but her glands were swollen. She did finish the day at school but came home and went to bed. Just woke up and is now running a temp of 101.5 under the arm.

The Dr said that if symptoms persisted she wanted to see her again and maybe run some tests. Anything I might ask for? Seems like she should be better by now. She's taking so much right now it seems like her symptoms should be under control. :(

You might ask about mono, Janette, and strep. Poor boo, hope she feels better SOON!!!!! :( :( :(

Mono or pnumonia. DS did the viral fever thing for almost 3 weeks this past fall before it finally cooked itself up into pnumonia. :( Poor baby, it's so sad when they feel this crummy.

She hasnt' been coughing much and her lungs were clear last week while we where there. Strep seems remote since she's taking an antibotic. Anyone know if Ceftin is pretty effective on strep?

I would guess viral......and mono sounds like it would go with the swollen glands......

I would also ask about mono. My DS had it when he was 7 - it really ran him down. I look at his school pictures when he had it and oh my the circles under his eyes. Nothing they could do about it though.

I would guess MONO or STREP. My son had Mono a few years ago, and it took a couple of visits to get the diagnosis. The Pedi
did a simple blood test in the office to determine the prognosis.
As far as the strep, my other son was on an anitibiotic for strep.
He went back to Pedi for follow up, and still had positive strep screens. He took three different antibiotics to clear up the infection. I am not a Dr, but would assume that a virus would have usually run it's course by now. Sinus, allergies, and asthma can be very hard on a person's body if having a severe reaction.
The antibiotic just may not be strong enough to clear up the infection. I hope things turn out well. Let us know what you find out. Good Luck!

I'd vote for mono. When I had it in college, I had a terrible sore throat, felt really tired and run down, had swollen glands, and a temperature. On the other hand, Amy has had strep before and it took a couple of visits for them to figure it out.

Hope they get to the bottom of it today. I'm sending a truckload of pixie dust her way and some hugs for both of you.

The Dr just called with the lab results. it's not Mono. She said the only thing that showed was an elevated white count but it wasn't bad.

They are going to keep her on Ceftin for a full 2 weeks and hopefully that will do it.

Dr said she looks better than she did last week as far as sinus but still having inflamation there. Said it could be a new virus on top of the sinus things.

Hopefully we'll get past it soon, they only have one more day at school this week with a 3 day weekend so she'll have some rest time.

Poor thing. Her allergies are probably playing a part in it and some times the allergy meds can themselves cause sore throats and nausea. My mom just had to go off Flonase because of a sore throat that would not go away for weeks. The doctor finally took her off the Flonase and her symptoms improved pretty rapidly. I hope she feels better soon.

A am glad to hear that she doesn't have mono. Hopefully the antibiotic will do the trick. I heard today on the news that this is going to be one of the worst allergy seasons for all pollens and mold. I'll keep her in my prayers. Keep us posted!
