Medical Records Degree

Does anyone here have a degree in Health Information Technology (medical records) ?

I'm thinking about going back to school , and would like to know more about this Degree. Do you like what you do, what are your hours, what does the job entail. Really any information you could give would be so helpful !!

I know a gal who graduated with a BS in HIM (health information management). She works in a large hospital in the records department and loves her job.

That said, most peopel that I know who actually work in hospitals and physicians offices doing this type of work are actually trained on the job.. but that could just be a regional phenomena.

I have an RHIA which is a four year degree. It's supposed to prepare you for managerial positions, but either degree is good for those types of jobs.

I started out just coding, learned evaluation and management coding, and now I am an auditor for a physicians group at a top hospital. We are actually setting up a new audit program here, and I work directly with the physicians on fraud and abuse issues. I plan to get into risk management.

I like it alright, it's good money, but I'm not sure I can do this the rest of my life. Sometimes the docs can be really mean, sometimes it's tedious, and sometimes you aren't paid for the crap you put up with!!
But that's probably with all jobs.

I am bumping this thread up because I was interested in finding out more about this field. I am looking to get into something in healthcare, but not sure what. I was thinking x-ray, ultrasound, that kind of thing but this sounded interesting too.

Anyone have any new imput??? Thanks in advance.
