Hi. The wonder is today making a technical stop only in Cartagena due to a serious medical issue. Does anyone have more nformation?

Overnight after GC, a passenger had a life threatening medical issue. They needed serious surgery so the ship turned back. 7 hour delay.

Because the PC is so tightly scheduled, we either had to skip Columbia or wait up to 6 more days for a time slot to traverse the Canal.

All this per Captain Henry's announcement.

Technical stop includes letting some variety acts off and new ones on. I assume also fuel and supplies.

thanks for the update, how full is the ship?
saw that ice cream is not self serve how about Cabanas?
is everything else fairly normal?

When we did the WBPC last year I asked the captain if they get new provisions during the cruise and he said no, they get everything they needed at PC. As for fuel they did have a bunker ship do a refueling after the canal, maybe because the canal changed partly based on weight so why fill it up before then.

Refueling is possible in many ports but not getting food or supplies onboard. Cruise lines stocking is a complicated business. They use specific suppliers and depots in their home ports and will not restock elsewhere unless there is a major issue.

As for food, very few ports are certified to handle it and restock ships. It’s basically only the ports where a U.S. owned cruise ship does a turnaround sometime during the year. For example, on a 14-nights Baltic cruise, an itinerary that a lot of lines offer, the only ports where they are allowed to restock on food (by the USDA I think) are Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Even then, they usually do not need to restock on a 14-nights cruise. The things you learn when you talk to a ship officer on a sea day...

Everything onboard seems okay, but Captain Henry announced two hours ago (after we'd stopped outside the port) that we'd be holding there only long enough to get clearance, and then we'd proceed in. So far, we're not moving, and the PC timing is very critical. Her said we'd need to be in line by 4:30am to hit our spot or risk waiting 6 or more days for transit. Fingers crossed!!

Good luck! Would that mean you’ll be stuck for 6 days? I’m sure everyone will appreciate if you’re able to keep us updated.

Hope the passenger will be ok. Have a great cruise. Looking forward to your TR.

We're back underway, and Captain Henry just announced we're headed out to sea, ETA 6:00am arrival at Panama Canal (we never did get any closer to shore, so no idea what that was all about). Since he told us last night we had to hit our 4:30 time slot or risk losing our guaranteed transit, no clue if we're good or bad. Hoping very much for good lol

He also said we could expect a smoother ride for this segment, which will be greatly appreciated, since we've been rocking and rolling for 5 straight days. Any reprieve will be welcome.

He indicated he had more info to give us but that he needed and hour or so before he could get back to us with it, so we're just enjoying ourselves. For those interested I'll post any new developments, at least until my wifi runs out.

The possibility of Disney not adhering to their schedule is slim to none.

I wondered about that. I was in Dr C's talk so I couldn't tell.

Yes, it's been rocky. If you can walk straight, you've had too many! Lol.

My daughter is most disappointed in having the pools closed due to the waves IN the pool.

Brief update: Captain Henry advised us via ship-wide announcement that Colombia denied us clearance because THEY have many cases in their country, and feared exposure to any cruise personnel who went ashore. The Captain reiterated that only entertainers were scheduled to embark/debark, and so once an absolute refusal was delivered, we continued on our journey to PC. He also clearly stated there are NO cases of virus onboard.

Our arrival ETA is now 6am, with transit thru the locks scheduled to start at 8:15.

Everyone onboard seems to be in good spirits, and Cruise Director Ashley is doing an amazing job making sure there's plenty for us to do. Somehow she (and her staff) managed to pull off staging for the Frozen show tonight with about four hours notice. Great show, with an amazing effort!!

Lastly, if anything has cast a damper over things, it's the proposed European travel ban. We have lots of Brits/Europeans onboard, and they're of course anxious about what's going to happen relative to them getting home. No answers yet, but if something changes I'll buy more MBs and let you know. Take care all!

The ban is for travelers (non-US citizens) from Europe entering the US. Not people leaving the US to Europe.

Isn’t it a 14 day ban for Europeans? They should be ok to enter. Good luck for the rest of your trip @EPeel , thanks for keeping us updated.

The real issue will be how many flights will be going from the US to Europe during the 30 day ban (starting on Sunday night)...probably none. Although the UK is not part of the ban (at the moment), so perhaps they could get home through the UK or maybe via a stop/change of planes in Canada?
