Dh had a heart attack last December but we managed to get his insurance for £50 in March this year before we went away in April. So far so good... I wasn't worried about getting it as I would just use them again, so I phoned this afternoon and they won't insure him :confused3 I don't understand it, nothing has changed only that it's been longer since he had it. Now I have to desperately find some insurance that is not going to break the bank. :sad2:

Oh, Cazzie that is terrible. I hope you find an insurer soon.

The scary part is that last time I was trying I was being quoted more than the cost of the holiday even though he didn't have surgery or anything. The problem is because it's the USA.

Have you tried Tesco insurance? I had an ear infection and because of flying Marks and Spencer's would not insure me, but Tesco did no problem, for very little extra.

Thanks Kevin, I will give them a call tomorrow at least I have somewhere to start.

I think if you look on the british heart foundation web site they have travel insurance companies on there :) This is the one thing i am dreading getting this year :( especially as we claimed over 3 quarters of a million on our last holiday insurance :o

Thanks Sharon I did try those when we went in April but to be honest they were either wanting nearly £1000 or they wouldn't insure him at all. :confused3

Wow :( Thats way over the top :(

I have heard the post office are very good :) let me know how you get on as I will be in your shoes in a couple of weeks.

Have you tried Direct Travel insurance, you will need to phone them as it's a pre exsisting condition, rather than on the web, I just insured my mum who has 2 fairly major conditions and they worked out hundreds of pounds cheaper than anyboody else I had a quote from.

Good Luck.

Sue

Travel insurance can be a real nightmare. The cheapest quote we could get for my Mum who has Fibrosing Alveolitis was over £900 for 2 nights!

I do wish you luck, my Father-in-law was quoted insurance for a cruise 6 months after a heart attack and could only get it ANYWHERE for £5,000 - needless to say, they didn't go!

I know how bad it can be.....my Dad had a mini stroke 4 weeks before they went to Orlando last April...he had to take extra cover out at a cost of £135 with medi care.....he has booked to go on holiday in November and now finds they want £1200 to cover him.....and he has not had any problems since April...so I am trying anywhere I can to find a better quote....it does not help him being 83 and mum is 80...they just love Disney and always go twice a year

Have you tried the British Heart foundation, they have a list of sympathetic insurers....good luck

Wow that is some claim, I take it you won't be going through the same insurance company. Is the person you claimed for going with you? Although they never asked if we had made a claim not that we had, it all seems so expensive, it may be great if you have to claim but if you don't it's a lot of money to pay for nothing. :confused3

My major problem at the moment is that dh is refusing to pay after getting it so cheap last time. We are at stalemate at the moment, with him refusing to pay more and me refusing to go if he doesn't have it.

We got ours through Tesco this year, DH had a severe stroke 20 months ago which he is recovering well from, but he has Atrial Fibrillation (irregular hearbeat) and high blood pressure (controlled with medication) and takes a cocktail of tablets every day, including warfarin. Tesco gave us a quote of £245, which matched a few other insurers, but the others wanted over £150 more for his ailments and Tesco was including these. He then suffered an epileptic fit in May and now has medication to control this, Tesco only wanted an additional £40 to cover this.

I know I got tired of ringing around quoting the same ailments and medication but its worth being covered properly in the long run.

We got a quote from M & S last night, they wanted £200 which is steep for 2 weeks hols but the sting was that should anything happen we would have to pay the first £1500.

LOL yes he is coming with us :) He was airlifted from arnold palmer hospital to miami Childrens hospital for open heart surgery (all while we was on holiday) The helicopter bill alone was $27,000 :scared1: He was in hospital for 7 weeks before he was strong enough to fly home with a doctor. We never did get a final total but we got way over $600,000

I dont think I will try to get insurance from the same company :teeth:

Fizzypop you must let me know how much your insurance is this time.

Arielwish I tried Tesco this morning and they refused to insure him....

Hi might I add a suggestion? a local insurance broker here has come up trumps for a few of my clientele with similair problems, his name is John Moppatt and his number is 01837 52268, he MAY (and I emhasise the MAY) come up with a better deal for you
