Medical Fridges

In the past we've always requested a medical fridge at Pop because of some meds that need refridgeration. Because my girls are very particular (spoiled) about theer brand of rice milk (DD9) and soy milk (DD12) (we also deal with a ton of food allergies) I bring milk along for their for cereal and while I'm at it I also get a jug of milk for me and DH so we can have quick breakfasts in our room before heading out. The fridge we've always been given as a medical fridge is a small bar fridge that's big enough for the bottles of milk as long as I take out the shelf. I've read about this shoe box sized fridge though that is often given as a medical fridge and now I'm worried that what we get may not be big enough. WDW doesn't carry the types of milk rice and soy milks that my girls will use (DD9 may agree but DD12 will refuse; she's also autistic so there's no convincing her otherwise).

Does anybody have a picture of the shoebox sized fridge?

If we're given the shoebox sized fridge, would it be a justified request to ask for a larger fridge for medical reasons? It's because of the food allergies and autism that we'd need it so in a sense I can see it being considered medical but at the same time it wouldn't be for medication which is the reason they really give the fridge at no cost.

Respectfully, no. Many, many, many people have non-medication issues that would make have a refrigerator beneficial - whether those be medical diagnoses, or food allergies... if you get a 'regular' size fridge, fine. If you get the medical size and ask for a different size instead, and then don't get charged for it, fine. But reasonably, expect to pay for the 'full' size fridge.

You might want to talk to a manger when you are there. You never know what they'll be able to do for you. I wouldn't just talk to a desk clerk, though. I'd go ahead and ask for a manger. My other suggestion...depending on the brand of milk(s), you might be able to find them in those little individual aseptic packs that don't need to be refrigerated, so then you could just keep one at a time in the fridge to cool it. DD takes little soy dream cartons in her lunch and it works out fine. Of course, those packs are way more expensive than a big carton, so you would have to see how it worked out price wise.

I have considered the single serving shelf stable cartons for DD12. In the past she used to say that the single serving cartons tasted different than the full sized bottles (gotta love obsessive compulsive tendencies) but now she'll drink them. For DD9 I'm just not sure if they do ones that she likes in single serving cartons. I was hoping to be able to order the liquids from Garden Grocer to avoid having to pack liquids in my carryon but GG doesn't have single serving cartons of rice milk listed; only 32oz cartons. I guess I can check out wegoshop instead.

I'd love to see a picture of those shoebox sized fridges if anybody has one.

I guess what we can do is hope for the best, plan for needing the least amount of fridge space as possible, and if we do happen to get the shoebox fridge just be honest and see what the manager says. If he says we have to pay then we'll pay and if he says he'll swap the fridge for a larger fridge for medical purposes then we'll consider that pixie dust. I've just read completely opposing stories as to whether things like food allergies are considered by WDW to be medically justified reasons for medical fridges. We do need one for medication, but not a big one for medication.
