Medical Fridge - question about freezing

Hi. We are planning a last minute trip (well, last minute for me....I usually have our trips planned out completely at least 6 months out :rolleyes1) and we are staying at the Pop. We have never stayed there, so I unsure how the medical fridges work. This will be our 2nd trip to WDW with having to take my DS's temperature controlled medicine. In August, our room already had a fridge at the Beach Club and it was big enough that I didn't have an issue of the fridge freezing everything in the fridge. If my son's medicine were to freeze, it would be useless...and I would assume it would break our injection pin too. Anyway, has anyone had an issue of a medical fridge freezing their medicine? I have not counted up our days yet to figure out if we will need to bring an additional vial too, so we could have the injection pin w/medicine and an additional vial. I am trying to decide if I should just get the full-size fridge and pay out of pocket for it. I would rather pay for a bigger fridge and not worry about the medicine freezing and having to pay out of pocket to replace the medicine than getting a free medical fridge. Thanks.

When we stayed at POP they gave us a full sized mini fridge for our medicine because of the amount and size of it and we had no trouble with freezing. Give them a call and tell them about how sensitive your meds are if you have not already. Also when you check in, tell them about your needs again. They are great about doing everything they can to help out.

The smaller (1 cf) refrigerators usually do not have an adjustable thermostat and are not set for freezing.

The larger (4 cf, dorm size) may have a thermostat along with a top freezer area. If so, just check the thermostat setting to make sure that it is in the middle and not full blast.

Thank you. I will hope we get a small 1 cf fridge then. My DS's medicine takes up almost no room in the fridge, so we will not need a bigger one.

We have had more of a problem with too warm fridges than too cold at wdw. We often need to use ice in the fridge at first to get it cool enough.

I set up my reservation and just noticed if the fridge is for medicine there is no charge. I only need it for my future husband's insulin, but I forgot to tell them that since I thought I'd have to pay for the fridge anyway. It's not like I'll have tons of leftovers to be stored, just 2 tiny vials... do you all think I can call them and tell them it's for his insulin? I don't want it to look like I'm trying to get out of paying and can show the insulin at check in... I just hope they can change the note. What do you all think? Have you forgotten to tell them the fridge is for medicine? I feel like an idiot. :sad1:

And I didn't mean to hijack the post, just the only one that was talking about fridges for medicine, and we'll be staying at POP too, so it seemed fitting.

Hi and :welcome: to both DisBoards and disABILITIES!

I would suggest that you contact reservations and ask them to add the comment to your reservation that the refrigerator is for medications and is a medical necessity. A nd they will not ask for any proof when you check in.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

And thank you so much for the advice! I'll be calling them in the morning. :goodvibes I'm a first timer, so it's a little overwhelming. You guys rock.
