My DH is a diabetic and within the last few months he's switched over to insulin and pills instead of just the pills. Regular scheduled meals is recommended and helpful in maintaining insulin levels. We're assigned 2nd dinner seating and wait listed for 1st dinner seating on our Nov Cruise. We filled out the medical form and his Dr. is signing it today, we'll have our TA send it into DCL.

Anyone have any experience with getting early seating with this medical form.???? I know that there is no guarantee and we'll certainly be able to adjust if it's not changed, but we wondered what our chances are???

TIA!

cruisin in less than 2 months

Your chances are better than most peoples. My DH is also a diabetic and we need early dining. When we were stuck with late dining and didnt get switched by the day we got onboard, we still managed to get it changed. On your navigator (newspaper in your room) it will have a place and time to show up and try to change your dining time. They will sit down with you and try to change you right then and there on their computers. We got there right when they first started taking changes and had no problem at all changing, without even discussing the medical need.
Another time they called us the second day and left a message in our room that they had finally got us changed to early dining. Better late than never.
So you might give that a try on the first day, plus I would get aphoto copy of your medical release form from your doctor to carry with you, it might help.
good luck,

I know this is not what you want to hear, but as a nurse, you know, that you need to ck your levels and make sure you have snacks on hand. They have fridges (i think in most of the rooms, so you can store your insulin) Without getting to personal, I'm sure that you're not the first diabetic to cruise. Ck the room service, so you can store snacks, and with medical services, maybe they have a special needs program/menu for diabetics.
You can still have a wonderfull time! ENJOY IT! Never go barefoot.

and with the medical form y9u sned to DCL request that an actual refrig is put in your room, other than the cooler box that is the norm. They will do it no problem. And request a sharps container....saves packing that bulky thing your self. One will magically appear in your room.

I was able to have my dinner switched with a medical form. It took about 3 weeks for the request to be processed.

Our dinner seating was switched after we sent in the medical form signed by the doctor stating that my husband is diabetic. It was no problem at all. :wave2:

I didn't even think about the sharps container...I'll make sure that's on the medical request. I'll have to check with DH about a refrigerator, The insulin that he takes doesn't need to be refrigerated while it's in the dispenser. The dispenser lasts him about 7-10 days, they're still trying to regulate the amount he gets. The supply of tubes is refrigerated until they go in his "dispenser", Since we're only going on a 3 day cruise, we may not need more than what's currently in the room.

The barefoot comment made me laugh :rotfl: my DH puts his shoes/sneakers on when he gets up in the morning, always has even before he found out he was a diabetic, the only time I see him with out shoes is when he's in bed.... :rotfl2: . I couldn't stand to have my shoes on that much, guess it's a good thing for him though...

We're looking forward to a great trip, even if we can't get the dining switched...you can't sweat the small stuff in life :wizard:

just be aware-if the requests for early dining (prior to your request-such as those who made request at booking but it was full) is realy large you may not get a switch. disney tries their best, but they will point out to you that they have room service available 24 hours as well as alternative eating venues.

I had to laugh ruefully when I read this. So true, but so many people may not even think about it, especially new diabetics. It would kill me -- I'm a Floridian and am barefoot most of the time. But you will have a fabulous time. Let us know how it goes!
