I am getting over a bad respiratory cold and pink eye. Our flight leaves tomorrow a.m. and I'm concerned about what to do if my daughter who is 4 comes down sick on vacation. I've been trying to be very preventive but you never know. What is the urgent care system at disney? We will be at BCV.

When our son was sick while in the World I went to the Concierge Desk and they arranged free transportation to an Urgent Care facility. They arrange transportation both ways and it could not have been any easier and everyone bent over backwards to make sure our son was comfortable. We have done this twice. Once with pink eye and once with strep. My wife and I have always said if you're going to get sick on vacation, there's no better place than WDW.

Thanks so much for this response. What a relief to hear.

I had the opposite experience. It was my DD and myself. After a few days with a minor ear ache and treating it with Tylenol, the pain worsened and she developed a fever, and the Tylenol wasn't cutting it anymore. With no rental car, I called our hotel front desk POFQ for help, and all they could do was give me the number for a taxi to Celebration hospital ER (this was several years ago, before the days of Uber). However, the cab, while not free, waited for us (he didn't have to do that) and the care she received at the ER was excellent. Plus they never billed us for our deductible, so there was some magic after all! However, Disney did not go out of their way at all. So they may, like the previous poster experienced, or may not, just have a plan B.

I know this doesn't help you now, but maybe it will help people reading this. When you hit the "Front Desk" button on the phone in your room your call was routed to a Central Call Center, not the front desk at POFQ. The CM you spoke to on the phone should have asked you to go the front desk and speak to someone. From speaking to friends/family and others on the DIS, they have all had the exact same experience as we did.

My youngest son got an inner ear infection about 2005 or 2007 in December...can't remember when, but we called CBR front desk, had a Mears taxi pick us up in our circle, took us to the ER/Urgent Care, and had paperwork for me to fill out on the way so we would have no wait. I tried to pay the guy but he said that WDW pays him, but he took our tip. It was probably 1.5 hours total time, but we were treated like gold.

We used the Urgent Care center when my husband banged his head and he needed staples in his head. We called the "front desk" (which I don't think is actually in the building, right?) to ask what to do and they suggested the Urgent Care center and offered to call a taxi. Since we had a car, we drove over on our own, and the person on the phone told us where to go. We were at the Contemporary at the time. It took probably two hours or so. Grandma took the kids to the dinner we had booked so that we didn't lose the $10/pp for not showing up and the kids were entertained, somewhat.

Right, the Call Center isn't even on WDW property. It used to be in Brandon, FL outside of Tampa as one of cousins worked there 2008-2010. Not sure where it is now.

We phoned an on call doctor service and had a doctor come to us at the hotel - Coronado Springs. Little fella had vomiting etc and doctor administered medication and stayed to ensure he didn't require any further treatment and could keep down the medication.

Flying with congestion can be a problem with your ears that should not be taken lightly.

A few years ago my son got pink eye before a vacation and another time I got strep before a vacation. Both times my doctor gave us extra prescriptions in case the other one of us came down with the same illness (I got a prescription to take with us for pink eye, and the doc gave us a prescription for ABX in case my son ended up with a sore throat).

In both cases, neither one of us needed it, but it was nice to be able to have, "just in case."

(Obviously we still would've had to get to a pharmacy, but would've been able to skip the urgent care part).

Centra Care will even pick you up in a park and take you to their urgent care center. We called from the MK and scheduled a pick-up time, then went to the first aid office by Crystal Palace and they escorted us to the cast parking area behind Main Street/Tomorrowland Terrace where the van picked us up. I think we made one stop at the Poly and one stop at DHS on our way. When it was all over they took us back to AKL. They had brochures available at the front desk and everything.

I hope that nothing happens that warrants going to the hospital, but just so you know... on our most recent trip in October, I developed a kidney stone and had to go to the emergency room. The pain was simply unbearable.

Disney could not have handled it better. My wife did call the "front desk" (aka, the Call Center) to ask about local hospitals, and they immediately arranged to send the Reedy Creek paramedics to our room. Within moments, an actual on-site manager from Art of Animation was at our door, and shortly after were the paramedics. The paramedics were great, and once it was determined that I needed to actually be transported to the ER, the AoA manager made sure that any needs my wife and our children had were taken care of. They even offered to add a day to our park passes to make up for the lost time!

I was taken to Celebration Hospital, and the staff there was fantastic. Once I was done, the lady at the information desk at Celebration Hospital arranged a taxi to take me back to the resort, and Disney provided a voucher to cover the cost of the taxi back. A couple days later, one of the actual, on-site managers checked in with me again to make sure that everything was okay and to see if there was anything else we needed.

Personally, I'd rather *not* have a kidney stone at Disney, but the situation was handled absolutely fabulously, and has given me yet another reason to love Walt Disney World.

We had the same experience at OKW. My son and duaghter on 2 different occasions had nasty colds. We called the desk and on each occasion they had a car bring us to the local medical clinic and they were treated and the car brought us back!

Years ago the desk arranged for a * on call Doctor* to come to the room for one of my moms Colds.!

Years ago we had a doctor come to the resort, but more recently we used the Walgreens Clinic just outside of Disney Springs for my son for a sore throat/cold/fever. They were great for what we needed. There was no wait when we went as a walk in and we could have also scheduled an appointment online before going. We were there 45 minutes including the time spent to have his prescription filled before we went back to the resort.

Disney was terrific when my son fell ill during the trip. We were at Epcot and he wasn't feeling well so we took him to first aid and discovered that Disney's thermometers only went up to 103 and my son's temperature was higher than that. They immediately transported us by van to an urgent care facility. The doctor was one of the best we have ever had and was able to help us, and then get us back to our Disney resort (which once again, Disney paid for and arranged).

We used Doctors on Call when my DS ended up with an infection. The doctor came right to our room at WL. There is even a pharmacy that delivers to the resort. The doctor called the prescription in for us and they delivered quickly. We had to pay out of pocket, but our insurance covered our claim. I would definitely use them again. It was very convenient.
