I have a quick question and knew I would get answers here the quickest so here it goes...

My daughter is three years old. For the last month and a half she has been getting temperatures of about 101-102 for about 4 or 5 days and then the temperature goes back to normal. She has no other symptoms along with the fever except maybe she is a little more tired then usual, but not much more tired if at all. Since 08/03/05 she has had this at least 4 times that I can remember.

So anyway, I called the doctor today (Saturday) thinking he was in and he isn't this Saturday so I made an appointment for Monday.

Monday I know she will be fine with no temperature so I don't want to be blown off by the doctor, but I was thinking if I had specific things I wanted him to test her for maybe he would run the test. I just have no clue what this could be. She was at the doctors 08/04 and they couldn't find anything, but now this has just been to long.

Does anyone have any ideas that I might want to have her tested for? I appreciate your help greatly!

Off the top of my head, I would say a CBC (complete blood count) for sure. Has she lost weight? Had night sweats? Has her appetite changed?

This would be quite concerning to me - do not let the ped blow you off.

Prayers that everything turns out fine. Keep us updated. :grouphug:

Hi there. There was another thread recently about the same topic, (sorry not savy enough to put up a link), but there did seem to be a lot of parents, including myself, that have had a child who has either gone through this or is currently going through this. My youngest went through this for about six months a couple of years ago and hasn't had it happen since. The one time I took him to the doctor they did do a throat culture and nothing came of it. I know it doesn't help you when you are feeling helpless, but just know you are not alone in this. :grouphug:

On the other thread someone mentioned that there are certian viruses out there that can cause this, but I honeslty don't know :confused3

This has been many years ago now but my DD was around 2 to 3 and she would have unexplained fevers, no other symptoms. Found out she had UTIs, quite a few of them, which caused the fevers. Maybe that could be the problem and a urine test would help.

Hope everything is all right for y'all,

Heather :wave2:

Do basic checks blood, urine, sinuses, mono, West Nile & Lyme disease. How are the lymph glands?

I know this is going to sound stupid....but here goes....I had these Flavor Ices (frozen treat pops), and they were a few months old, (before they did dates).
My girls and the neighbor girls kept running low grade fevers. I noticed it happened after they had a FlavorIce. I threw them out and it never happened again.
So check your freezer/refridge, you just never know.

Thank you for the quick responses. I will be requesting these test for sure. It also makes me feel better that other people went through this and everything turned out to be ok. My son just always had something to explain his temperature usually an ear infection. So I am really worried about this one. Thanks you for your prayers. I will definately check my fridge/freezer. I also will be throwing away her toothbrush and starting over with a new one maybe that will help.
Mystery machine - what kind of dog is on your chair. It looks just like mine which I was told was full breed toy fox terrier and I always thaught he looked more manchester. Sorry totally off subject!

Having a fever for a time, and then becoming afebrile can indicate some type of an abscess. Bacteria, which produce the fever, are leaking out intermittently to cause the fever. One of my friend's daughters had symptoms like this and turned out to have sinusitis. Another possibility is appendicitis or, less likely if she is otherwise healthy, brain. If she were my patient, even if she were fine in my office, I would carefully examine her for any type of abscess, including intraabdominal, lung, sinuses. I would probably do the CBC, chest xray, and sinus xray, and would consider doing a CT of the abdomen or brain to look for the source.

Has she thrown up at all?

I would have a blood count done.

I echo what the above poster said about an appendicitis. DD went through about a month of fevers and throwing up. I took her to the Ped and they said it was just a virus.

A week later she had to have an emergency appendectomy and she had a more serious problem called Meckel's Diverticulum.

What do her tonsils look like? I'm sure the Ped will check those.

Good luck on Monday. Let us know how you all are doing. :grouphug:

What is it that prompts you to take her temp? Is she hot, acting ill? That's the kind of thing you need to be able to explain.

My concern about this is that if these fevers last 4-5 days, and it's happened at least 4 times since the beginning of August, then your DD has had a fever for about 20 of the last 40 days. That seems like an awful lot to me and I don't think they are going to ignore it.

She hasn't thrown up at all. I end up taking her temperature because she feels warm, but there is no indication of anything else being wrong with her. She may be just a litte more tired if anything at all, but I don't even think that she is any more tired. I just think I notice the first sign of the temperature at night because that is when she is more likely to be on my lap. We play outside most of the day. I took her to the doctor the first time and the doctor really couldn't find anything. He said her throat may have been a little red, but that was it. They did a throat culture and found nothing. my son ended up getting sick that time too, so I am thinking that may have been something different anyway, because nobody else seems to catch whatever she has and we have a ton of kids on our block that are in and out of my house all day long. (When she doesn't have the temp of course.) I am really hoping I don't have to argue with the ped to do some testing. This is really scaring me, but I will pay for it out of pocket if I don't get the ped's referral. I am going to write everything in this tread down so I will have questions or ideas for the ped. Thank you to everyone
