I just read on another thread that the Grand Opening / Media Event for Mission Space is going to be on October 9th. Of course, I immediately ran over to check my itinerary for October 9th, and that is my Epcot Day, go figure. I already have a PS for the Storybook Princess that day. So can anyone confirm or deny this? Is it going to be packed that day? Should I try and change my PS? Thanks in advance.

Ugh! Now I just read that Mickeys Philharmagic media event will be on October 8th. Which is of course my scheduled Magic Kingdom Day. Can I pick um or what? Does anyone know if these media days are normally packed?

I don't know how packed EPCOT will be but I'm pretty sure that area of FW will be closed part of the day.I believe a special pass not available to the general public will be needed to attend the media event.

I've been to EPCOT before when half of FW (UoE,WoL,TT areas) was closed for something special going on.Nearly broke my son's,who was 4 at the time, heart because he LOVES the dinos at UoE. In turn the other half of FW was pretty packed that afternoon!

I think I'd try and change my PS if I was you just to be on the safe side! :)

wouldn't you know it, we leave on the 7th :(
Thank Goodness for soft openings!

I will confirm the dates, but it sounds right. Media events are closed to the public, and can have a negative impact on park traffic, as Lisa pointed out. I will get those dates confirmed and let everyone know.

Thanks
Pete

Thanks Pete! I really appreciate it!

My guess is they will close the park early that day for a private party for the media in the evening. This is what they did for Walt's 100th birthday media event in 12/2001, MGM closed at 4:00pm one day. Being Mickey's Philharmagic is the day before, they are probably inviting the media in for both events. We were there the week of Walt's 100th birthday media event and they did not create big crowds. They were doing special broadcasts around the parks but I don't think it affected crowds, there weren't that many of them, they mainly were there to do their jobs, not be on the rides. One big plus was we saw lots of celebs. Regis taped millionaire, Regis & Kelly taped their show at MGM & taped the Chrismas Parade, we saw some of our local radio announcers broadcasting their shows in tents at the parks.
