My husband is Italian and he went to a dinner tonight for his Italian club and they served spaghetti and meatballs. I don't know if that's the way real Italians do it or not. I don't like a big piece of meat in my noodles. I like to brown my beef and prefer it spread throughout my sauce. I'm just curious how others do it. :)

I actually love it both ways......but overall my family prefers meatballs and stick peperoni in thier sauce....

I don't know if I understood you correctly or not. But a meatball is a big round ball in the sauce. Browned meat through out the sauce is meatsauce. There is a big difference. My DH prefers meatsauce. I prefer meatballs.

I prefer meatballs in a light marinara sauce without it all through the sauce. The abose poster is right, it's two different dishes, technically a meat sauce is called a Boglonse (I just know I spelled that wrong) and while the typical Italian Boglonaise sauce contains veal many Americans do a version with ground beef.

Yeah, what you said. I was reading the OP and thought, "What the crap?? A huge hunk of round meat in spaghetti is a meatballs. Browned hamburger meat is meat sauce. This is not rocket science!"

:teeth:

My Italian family makes meatballs. My mom (who likes to think she's Italian, but definitely isn't) prefers meatsauce. I cannot stand meatsauce, so am always thankful when the Italian aunt sends down a pot of meatballs. From what I understand my grandmother (from Italy) only made meatballs. Meatsauce was forbidden in her house

I just say that I'm making sauce. :confused3 I don't know all these technical terms. :teeth:

sorry to interject again but meatsauce is meatsauce. Bolognese is typically made with two kinds of meat, sauce, etc and at the end you add milk or cream to the sauce.

I really get into the cooking thing. Watch way to much food channel etc. Heck and I'm not even Italian.

Holy crap, I'm not going to confess that I use Ragu. :lmao:
Dont feel bad. My father the Italian uses frozen meatballs and jarred sauce

Dh prefers meatsauce, but he's Pennsylvania-Dutch.
Ds likes meatballs because he likes to stuff them in his mouth.
I prefer neither because I'm a vegetarian.

I also studied in Italy for a semester while in college, but that is pretty much a big blur. I *can* tell you that the Italians make really good wine...which is why my time there is a pretty much a big blur.

Hmmmmm...I guess I'm not really helping you at all, am I Sherry? :teeth:

I thought the OP explained it perfectly. I prefer meatsauce, not meatballs.

My MIL makes the best vegetarian meatballs (or, umm...just balls I guess).

I like meatballs but not meat sauce. DH likes them both together :crazy2:

I lived in Italy for 8-1/2 years and not once did I see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu at a restaurant. At our Italian friends house we did have meatballs, but it was served as a meat dish and not in the pasta. I think the spaghetti and meatballs that most americans are familiar with is an american tradition, not typical Italian.

With that said, I do like spaghetti and meatballs on ocassion and I do like spaghetti with meat sauce. DH prefers meat sauce where as DS prefers meatballs, so we switch it up all the time.

Yeah, baby! ;)

I used to prefer meatballs over meat sauce, so does my husband who is half italian. I don't eat red meat anymore.

Um..... all SSB says is that you are awesome... :)
