The kids and I were in the yard playing on the water slide- when a truck pulls into my driveway. Selling meat. From a truck. Not schwanns- just some random meat seller. Trying to get rid of their "extra stuff"

yesterday we had the milk man come to get a route going- that I signed up for. I am now wondering if the meat guy is friends with the milk guy and they thought - yeah head up there it's a neighborhood of suckers.

But really do you buy meat from trucks? When we first moved in here about 9 years ago we got them coming through- then nothing. Well they're back!

A year or so ago, my wife and I were at the car dealership getting one of the vehicles repaired. A man came up to us and explained that he has a meat route and that one of the Titans just stiffed him on a big order. He offered it to us at a discount. He was getting his truck repaired and we spoke to our service rep who knew the guy and vouched for him. We ended up buying a freezer load of cow.

It worked out fine for us, but I would never agree to any kind of recurring situation.

Here in Maryland, the best blue crabs come from the back of a truck on the side of the road.

The meat truck comes out to our neighborhood, but it is a reputable company, not just some random guy. The company name is Grill Masters. They have some of the best seasoned chicken breast and beef filets I have ever had.

Meat I'm not sure I would, because of all the possible contamination in processing, and the possibility of cosmetic tampering.

Seafood, however? You bet; but only if it is whole and fresh, of course. When it comes to fresh catch, the only thing better than the back of a truck is the back of a boat. That has always been one of the oddest things I've noticed about Orlando -- the lack of shrimp trucks. Only about 90 minutes from the water, yet you never seem to see them, even in the areas away from the tourist routes.

Now this truck DID NOT look clean! Which is why I was like no way no how.

But I did buy Seafood off a boat in Jamaica. Now that was good- the fishermen would come around every morning showing what they caught and our cook would fire some up for dinner every night! That I would do! buy off a boat!

I think it is fairly safe, if people where getting sick or what not from these guys selling meat i think the police would handle them and get them off the streets. My family use to buy meats from people who would come to the door or meet them in the yard.

Had a neighbor who drove one of those pickups with a freezer and sold meat/seafood. He owned the truck and leased the freezer box from the meat company. They have no real customers and their "line" is to ramdomly select an area and tell people they have some left over product they "must" get rid of.

Hey Neighbor! I've gotten those meat and seafood people here too. Weird, dirty looking people! My husband did sign us up for sunrise milk delivery and i cancelled it. I thought it would be organic but looked like it came from the store.

My husband hates when I answer the door for all these door to door people...he actually got me a panic button to wear around my neck! :lmao:

This just happen to me the other day - I answer the door and this guy is asking if I want to buy meat or seafood out of his truck. This is all new to me, because I never had this happen to me in NJ

I sit there and said who buys meat out of a beat up old truck!

I've bought it without issues.

And I agree with the best crabs in Md come from the guys on the corner:thumbsup2

I am afraid of those. I always say we are vegetarians. Which is only a little untrue. :rolleyes1

Hey, I have a garage full of crap for a garage sale. I wonder if I could drive it around to houses and try to off it?

:rotfl2: about the panic button!
I was all up in arms when Metropolitan told me they were moving- That's my favorite seafood place. They claim 4 minutes away. We'll see
And how's that baby?!

And I'm giggling because I am in NJ! Hunterdon County.

There are two very good reputable companies that sell meat, seafood and poultry from trucks and vans in my area. One is called steakguys and they have sales twice a week. Their steaks are very good. I can't remember the name of the other company.

Wow, I have not seen one of those trucks in years. We had one neighbor who used to buy from him every time he came around.

Metropolitan Seafood isn't going that far...they are going to be on 22 and Cokesbury Rd in Lebanon. Looks like its going to be big.

Not to highjack the thread but did you see the stores on Main had alot of damage? the sub shop was hit the hardest with the flooding.

The baby is awesome...so good and getting big. About 20#s at 5 months old! I hope all is well with you!

Some guys with a meat truck pulled that "somebody stiffed us" story about 3 months after we moved in to our home. They said some neighbors down the street [whom we had not yet met, actually] had placed and order, but now claim it was for only half of what the truck guys had, so they were trying to sell the meat b/c they couldn't bring it back. My naive DH bought some steaks and they were really crappy. They were packaged in a vacuum pack so I wasn't worried about a dirty truck, if it even was dirty b/c I didn't notice. They were just tough and had no flavor at all. Never agian.
