Measuring child for 48 inches?

My daughter when I measure at home she is 47.5 inches with no shoes first thing in the morning.

We went to Six Flags Magic Mountain this spring and when they measured her with shoes and everything she was 48 inches, but we had to meausre every time at every ride and it became annoying. Does Universal have a wristband where they can measure her one time and then not have to remeasure every single time!

Also, has anyone had any kids who were borderline like this and did you notice if Universal matched what you thought 48 inches would be?

I kinda picture this like my scale! ( I weigh one amount at home and another at the gym even wearing the same outfit it seems to be a bit different!)

There is no wristband system at any of the Orlando-area theme parks. Frequent measuring is to be expected; it's a matter of safety. It means that the employees are paying attention and are doing their jobs properly.

There is no wrist band system at Universal. While it maybe "annoying" to have to do it all the time, its your childs safety on the line. Universal is really good about measuring kids. At some rides, your child will be measured more than once because the employee AT the ride doesn't know if your child was measured at the start of the line. Getting measured more than once will happen a lot, but never get annoyed when the employee asks to messure your child. They are simply doing their job and trying to make sure your child remains safe.

Alright guys I can vouch for her. I am a 4' 8'' 20 year old and I have been measured for rides my entire life. It does tend to get annoying after a while, esp when you're an older rider. I completely understand the importance of being measured and making sure the height requirement is made, but that still doesn't mean it's not annoying when you are pulled out of line countless times to be measured.

What always helped when I was younger and we never knew if I was going to be tall enough or not is to automatically go up to the person at the front of the ride where the measuring tool is and at the end of the ride where they are loading. Going ahead and expecting it at every ride was less intrusive than trying to board the ride and them pulling you aside.

My daughter is a sensitive 8 year old who doesn't like to be touched by other people a whole lot, some kids it bothers and some it doesn't.

I was just hopeful we could get measured once a day and not have to get pulled out of line 1-2 times every ride times 6 rides in a day (I know this only includes the rides that 48 inches is the limit) times the 8 days we are going to be at parks. It just adds up after a while and for someone who doesn't like being touched, it just isn't fun.

For the past few years that me son keeps growing through the height requirements it is hit or miss on if they measure. We ended up going on rides that we knew he was tall enough. Now he is almost 55 1/2" and hope he makes it on the big coasters ( Hulk and DD ).

The first time we tried Mummy on our 2008 summer trip he was turned away due to his hair touching and not his scalp. The next day we tried and they checked and waved him by at the entrance. Then he was measured again at the top of the express line right before you board.

I hope they let him ride the big ones, last year he just missed Dr. Doom and the poor kid was upset and started to cry. I felt so bad, but I know its for safety.:thumbsup2

Well, Universal only has TWO rides out of both parks that require you to be 48" or taller. A few are 44" and a few are 42" but those will be hit or miss, and as soon as she gets close to the measureing stick, they will see without having to touch her or anything.

The two rides that require 48" are Revenge of the Mummy which is an indoor rollercoaster that might even be to scary for an 8 year old. The other is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Both of these are at different parks as well so if you only do one park a day, she will not have to get measured that much.

My advice, don't make it like a bad experince when she has to get measured. Instead, make her feel good about it. Say something like "Go show off how tall you have gotten!" or "You got lucky, they only measure princesses" or something like that. My younger sister never liked going to get measured but when we told her to go show off how tall she has gotten, she was walking up to the measuring sticks for rides that she didn't even need to.

Also, this is nothing like Six Flags. Most of the times the employees try and make it fun for the child and most of the measuring areas are themed to the ride so its fun for the kids go up and stand next to a character or something. I would not worry about it. With only TWO rides requiring you to be 48", it will not happen that often.

That's good advice and remember...Six Flags is an amusement park and Universal is a theme park. There are lots of differences between the two that go way beyond the attractions.

My daughter was about 50" on our vacation and these were the only two rides that she was measured at. It took seconds and was really a non-issue. Have a great trip!

Thanks for the advice, you are correct in that Six Flags is not like Universal so it should be much better.

That's not correct. You need to be taller than 48" to ride Dragon Challenge, Dr Doom's Fearfall, Hollywood's Rip Ride Rocket, and the Hulk also.

True, but the rides you mentioned have height restrictions of 51-54 inches. If the OP's daughter is 47.5 inches, those wouldn't even be close and they likely wouldn't have her measured for those rides since she would have no chance at her current height.

You're right, though, that there are more than two rides that require you to be 48 inches or taller. I think the PP meant that there were two rides with a 48 inch requirement, but as you said, there are several with height restrictions greater than 48 inches as well.
