Mears shuttle

We are not hiring a car and usually book Mears shuttle passes to venture off property (universal) through Virgin.
However, to cut a long story short I'm not going through Virgin and was wondering if anyone has booked Mears shuttle direct.
Do you phone and request pick up and then pay the driver or book online?

I know you can make your reservation by phone and then pay the driver, not sure about online as I have never tried it. If I am right it's $20 for the return trip.

I've read a report about using Uber instead of Mears. They cannot pick up or drop at the airport, but for all other destinations it should be cheaper (and probably faster).

Just note OP that since you are coming from overseas not sure what you are doing for a phone/data plan. You can only get a ride with an app that uses data.

I'm pretty sure there is no one to call.

You're right, I forget that using data in the USA can be a problem for most, with Three I can use it for free.

We booked mears through hotel reception pick up and collection time and paid the driver in the morning and got a ticket for the return journey.

I've heard that you can use the uber app with WiFi connection but as this is not always reliable but not work

Every year we go to Universal we always go to reception at the hotel and ask them if they can ring Mears for us and we have NEVER had an issue doing this! We do exactly the same thing on the way back by going to Guest Services and asking the same thing and they are always very accommodating to us and are happy to help! They will usually ring up and pass you the phone and you can sort it out directly with them!

Can I ask what time you ask to be picked up to head to Universal Studios / Islands of Adventure? Just not sure how long the journey takes and if we should make an allowance for other pick ups on route?
