Mears Shuttle questions for the new Magical Express.....

My question is not so much about Disney losing the bags, as I'm sure that's rare. But what happens if the airline loses your bag? You're supposed to file a claim before you leave the airport, but if Disney is getting your luggage then how would you even know a bag is missing till you got them in your room? I guess if Disney knows how many bags each party should have, then they can file the claim, but then they'd need to know what it looked like, contained, etc.

An excellent question, who do you contact in the event you do not recieve your luggage at your resort. This would be a question for Disney when making your reservations that needs to be asked. What is the first and continuing steps to track it down, and get it to you. Maybe someone here can answer??

Will the new buses have a bathroom on them? Don't laugh...I am very paranoid about having to use the restroom and there not being one around, esp. on a bus.

I wish Southwest would join that list too!

What are everyone's thoughts on luggage getting lost?

I did not see a bathroom one the Magical Express bus. I recently got to ride one thanks to me missing a flight and having to travel back to OKW. The Magical Express shuttle was very nice but did not see a bathroom on it. I hope Disney runs this service properly as I would be very likely to use it.

Well, our trip in in April, so before Magical Express starts, but in case we get to make another trip before it ends I was interested. We just had our bag lost in December (airline left it in Newark, never put it on the plane to New Orleans) and had to file a claim. It was my daughter's bag, which had all her clothing, diapers, wipes, etc. If I were using Magical Express, they wouldn't know I was missing a bag. Then when I realize I'm missing one (later that day, when I return from the parks and notice I'm 1 bag short) what do I do? If I ask Disney, then they say they only got 2 bags, not 3 for me, then I call the airline, they can say "oh, no, your bag was there, Disney lost it." And it seems like that can just go back and forth. We have been on a cruise and used this service before, and didn't have any problems, but have lost a bag several times on vacations over the past few years so I've been thinking more about it lately.

I don't know how this will all work, but this is my personal educated best guess.

My guess is that when you check your bags, the airlines will know how many bags you checked. When B.A.G.S. (the company that handles the transfer from OIA to WDW) picks up your bags, they will scan in that special tag you get, and will see how many bags you get. They will then reference that number with the amount of bags you checked. If they match, all is well. If they don't match, a red flag is raised, and they investigate with the airline the location of the bag.

One of the ways you can help prevent your bags being lost is to check when they tag the bags. Make sure that it has the right airport location on the tag. You should also pack a copy of your itinerary in your bags in case it gets lost. Have a contact number where you can be reached on your vacation.

Sometimes things happen and luggage is delayed so be sure you have important items with you in carry on.

Just some info regarding DME.

The only thing that Mears will be providing will be the Motor Coach and the driver. All other people that you meet will be costumed Disney Cast Member. The Disney Airport Transportation Center will be manned by Disney Cast Members not Mears Employees.

Disney Cast Members are in charge of moving the bags within the airport. The trucks and truck drivers that take the bags to the resorts are contractors but Disney Cast Members are in charge of all phases of the baggage handling within the airport.

The way missing bags are handled by DCL is the following:

When/if you notice that one of your bags is missing at your resort. You call the bell stand and they will get information about the bag (bag tag #, description, etc). They will call the DCL office at the airport and let them know that a bag is missing and fax the info to the airport. There is a CM at the airport that then takes the info and searches for the bag at the airline's office. If the bag is found (DCL tag was missing, etc) the bag is sent to the resort. If the bag is not found , they use the info you furnished to put in a claim with the airline as your agent. They then furnish the resort with the claim information and a phone number of the airline to call and get info about the status of the bag. The CM's will continually check with the airlines until they find the bag.

I assume that DME will handle delayed bags in a manner similar to this.

How does the return trip work for Magical Express? If I have an 8am return flight, what time will Magical Express pick up my family at AKL?
