We have taken mears before....does anybody have any idea how long the trip typically can take....

It would be either to the AS Music or Swan???
thanks...

I really, really dislike Mears. My worst experience took over 2 hours! Ugh!!!!

If this is for DisCon, I would suggest 2 things. Either have zurg wait for you and take a Towncar together, (meeting your flight) or see the share a ride thread on the DISCON board. Maybe you can coordinate a ride with someone else either renting a car or getting a towncar.

Mears can take so long because they fill a bus or van with first come first serve mentality and sometimes you get included a wonderful funfilled tour of the Disney resorts you are not staying at. If you are extra lucky, you get to see hotels all over the area (like me!)

After that, I only do a town car now. Even if I am traveling alone, it is woth the extra money to have the luxury of a towncar. And if you look at the dollars (about &80 plus tip) over Mears $27 each person, it is not so bad.

Pumbaa,
that's a great idea... but I'm still kind of new at this,,, how do I get to the share a ride thread?

I'd like to post our itinerary and see if anyone else is arriving around our time and going to CBR area.

thanks... I am learning SO much from this board!!! I love it!!

:p

Ok worst experience took 2 hours...does anybody have a typical experience or are there more like this????

Hi Jeanny,
Here is the link to the thread on the Dis Convention page for sharing a ride. There are lots of solos attending and hopefully people will be able to share a ride. I haven't booked my air yet, still waiting for a deal!
Dis Con Share a Ride thread

Thanks Jody-
I found it... I just hadn't gone down the list on disconvention... Thank you, thank you, thank you, I went right to it with your help!
It's such a good idea....as long as we're going to the same area... I don't even want to THINK about the Mears cattle vans!!! I want to start my vacation off in comfort!!

Cattle vans! What a hoot! That is just what I felt like...Moo!:p

I've used them several times and its never taken longer than about an hour from the time we got to the Mears desk and purchased our tickets until the time we got to our resort. I've always been very satisfied with their service and use them anytime its less expensive to do that then do a towncar.

Timing and resorts are key with Mears. If you arrive LATE at night, be perpared for the tour of Orlando. (They just don't have many people at those hours so they fill up the van and tour!) If you get lucky and arrive at a time with a lot of Disney people going to your resort, they will try to group you together. I have only done them once and don't want to do it again!

The only time I used Mears we came in at about 9 or 10 pm. We were indeed herded into the van and went to MANY different resorts. I wish I'd paid better attention to the trip and the places we stopped at, but I was already foggy-headed with fatigue and remember little except that it took at least an hour and a half, possibly even 2 hours.

Thanks everyone for there posts....can't decide what to do????

If it's an 1 1/2 hr to 2 I might as well that the LYNX for $1.10 at least there I know it is 1 1/2:)

I've used Mears twice, and have had mixed experiences. The first time was a good experience - it took less than 45 minutes from the time I got in to the van until the time I was checking in at the Dolphin. However, the last time I used Mears, the total time was more than double that - an hour and 45 minutes.

My overall conclusion is that Mears service varies greatly, and if you want dependable service, use a towncar service or have a friend/family member meet you at the airport.

Have a great trip! :)

I've had very good luck with Mears over the past few years. Both drivers were terrific and pointed out stuff along the way, so the drive didn't really matter that much (usually 45-75 minutes). We always go in September and arrive around 1:30pm in the afternoon so this could have something to do with. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again! :)

IMHO,
It all depends on tow things:
1. How many are in your party
2. How willing you are to be patient.

Last September, there were 7 of us and we used Tiffany. It was less expensive for us to use a towncar service (or in our case, a van).
The driver met us at the luggage p/u, got our luggage, brought the van around, and loaded it.
AND most important for me was this... we were in the van, pulling out and there was a HUGE group of people waiting to get onto the Mears bus... in the heat, who knows if they all got on the bus. We went straight to our Hotel, and we were alone and enjoying the sites! Maybe this is on the bus, too, but our driver let us know when we were close so we could get a video of entering WDW.
We're going back this fall, 5 of us this time, and I wouldn't think of going any other way. Again, this is IMO.
