If you're talking about Mears Connect (the shared busses that replaced Magical Express) I think as long as it is done before the trip, it is fine. Personally, I like to review my plans and make sure I've booked everything about two weeks prior to leaving home.

If you're talking about their towncar type services, I would book that earlier, just to be sure there is availability.

I know this is a couple weeks old but wanted to add for your (and others) information that I booked a Mears Connect (the $16 ride shuttle ride) for my son while on our trip 2 weeks ago. Less than 48 hours from when he would be picked up. Plans had changed and he didn't want us to drive him to the airport 8 hours early (who could blame him??). Hopped on my phone, got him booked in just a few minutes and he had zero issues.
(And nobody @me, he's in college. LOL)

I'm actually pretty sure I've seen people standing about 15 feet from the check-in doing the online registration. Can't think of any other reason they'd all be huddled up right there, hunched over their phones in front of the QR sign...

I like to book in advance, but just last week I saw a sign at Mears in the airport that said they take walk-ups.
