Our first trip to DLR is coming up next month and I still haven't made decisions on dining. I'm curious about the walking time from within the parks to the Downtown Disney area. Is it feasible to plan lunches/dinners in Downtown Disney and still get plenty of park time in? I guess I'm asking if it takes a while and wastes precious park time to run over to Dowtown Disney to have lunch and/or dinner then run back to the parks? About how long/far of a walk is it? It seems that alot of the restaurants we want to try are ending up being in Dowtown Disney, but I don't want to make too many plans there if it's going to be a big waste of our time to go back and forth.

We always have at least one meal in DTD. Or, we go past DTD to Goofy's kitchen for brunch. It is really very close. I honestly think it is less of a walk than it is at WDW to walk from MK to the Contemporary.
Taking meal breaks wastes much LESS time at DL because everything is so close! Also, DTD is not nearly as large as the one in Florida.:)

Thank you! That is great information. I am just really trying to put everything into perspective. ;)

I would take the monorail from tomorrowland to down town disney !!! you can have a nice ride and get there faster.... ( to me its faster any ways)
Im doing 3 in down town disney this trip. rainforest cafe. espn zone and goofys kitchen
2 dinners and 1 breakfast. I plan on taking the monorail down and back

ooh.. good point.. I totally forgot about the monorail running between the two. Thank you!! :)

We go back and forth DTD, CA and DL all the time. Gives us a break from the crowds, the heat, etc.

Also, I am no good at posting links, but there is a Gmaps pedometer i use to measure distances. From the back of DL (splash mountain) to the back of DCA (california screamin') is about a mile. (little less) From the hub (DL) to ESPN zone it is .52 miles. (that's the farthest restaurant in DTD)

Like Jack said, we park hop constantly! We have been known to ride splash and then cali screaming and then big thunder..... it's lots of fun being able to be so flexible!

We go to DTD regularly on our DL visits. It's not a walk at all, in fact the GCH is in the middle of DTD, DLH is at the end and PPH is across the street. DTD is very central to the parks. We eat at RFC on almost every trip we go on......we like to ride the monorail as well.

Well, I had awful luck on our little trip, b/c each time we tried to get out of or into DL, we ran into Celebrate. And more importantly (though I really really really do NOT like that "street party"...a DL parade does NOT need an MC!), the crowds for Celebrate. Ugh.

Ran into the end of the parade trying to get out to our hotel around 4 (it starts at 3:30, but ends well after 4), then later trying to get back in, hit the start of it (going the reverse direction) as we entered the parks at 6:30, then ran into another parade stop near the castle as we tried to get from tomorrowland (picked up a Buzz FP) to Splash. We were actually *going to* go to Small World, but I realized at the last minute that they were off to the plaza area outside Small World next, and we would have run into it a third time for the same parade. :headache:

So time yourselves well...

Probably best to schedule yourself in Tomorrowland before your mealtime, so hopping on the monorail doesn't take extra time.

Can you also take to monorail from Tomorrowland to DLH to get to Goofy's Kitchen?

The monorail goes from Tomorrowland to DTD and then you walk to DLH which is not far from the monorail station.

Also, the monorail is a good idea (especially if the street party is going on) but it isn't always the fastest way I don't think. It seems like we often end up waiting a long time for the next monorail to come.

The monorail does not go to the hotel, the station is very close though. It is then a very short walk over to GK.
