I am sure this is somewhere on the boards, but can members get meal plans?

Does a dining plan actually save $$$? :confused3

Meal plans can only be purchased by those on a package....which is a room and tickets together.

So no, members and dining plans do not go togther. :(
Wish they did!

Too bad! We did the meal plan twice (with a non-DVC package) and it was awesome!! Although I wish I could fit into my pants!! :rotfl2:

We just went in July and that is when we bought into DVC. We were on the dining plan so we asked. The sales rep said no, but they were working on it. What does that mean exactly I don't know. She could have just been blowing me off about it. But as of now no and it is to bad because it is a great deal. :earsgirl:

With some care, you can save money with DDE. I'm not so sure about those "Wish" plans that are not available to DVC members. They tend to make you spend hours pigging out in a desperate race to get your money's worth--and they teach your children to order lobster and filet mignon, which is not such a good thing either!

Jim Lewis, the head of DVC, gave a talk on the DVC members cruise.

He was asked this question and he said that it requires changes to the computer system. A project is currently underway to make these changes, it is happening.

They hope to announce a timeframe of when it will be available by the end of the year (The announcement by the end of the year, not the meal plan).

He emphasized that it is not a matter of 'if' but of 'when'.

Great, keep going on member cruises and bringing us back quality information!! ;)

I appreciate the info.
Thanks alot

We looked into this too, and decided that a regular annual pass was the same cost as the 10-day MYW pass with the plus features, and if we purchased one annual pass, it would enable us to purchase the DDE card. So we have one annual pass and three MYW passes. We'll try this out next month and hope for the best. I'm not big on having to make dining reservations every night, meaning I have to be in a certain park or resort at a specific time...that kind of planning puts a damper on the magic for me. And with the popularity of the dining packages, I wonder if I can actually be spontaneous and get a table without a lengthy wait, or if I will need to return to my room to prepare dinner or be stuck having turkey legs or hamburgers instead? :confused3

In the end, though, unless we were to start eating a lot more than we normally would, a dining plan wouldn't save us money, even if they did offer us the price they offer non-members to entice them to purchase packages with higher-than-best-rate hotel room rates. Since they couldn't justify discounting the dining plan for us, as they do for non-members, by attributing it as marketing cost for the hotel rooms, it would be even less likely for a meal plan to save us any money. It would be mostly a convenience thing, with a premium paid for that convenience. My credit card gives me that for free!

I always thought introducing my children to lobster and filet mignon was a good idea. If they don't learn what they like and don't like or how to act appropriatly in fine dining situations as a hands on experience how will they know what to do later? My children order these items when I pay OOP so why shouldn't they on a dining plan?
