DH and I will be visiting Universal for the first time in Dec. We have done WDW 4 times and we needed a change. We are staying on property and I was pricing out tickets and such, when I came across the Meal Plan. At $50 +/- a day for 2 adults, not too sure. Especially when you only get a Counter Service meal/drink and a Snack/drink. Am I reading this correctly?

Seems rather pricey to me.

Most will tell you it is not worth it, unless you are doing something specific and know it saves you money.

The restrictions on it hamper what could be a good deal. Read some other posts (search) about it and come to your own conclusion, but I have passed on the Meal Deals (Dining Plans) since they got rid of the ones that were worth it to me.

The Universal Table Service plan for $51.99 includes:
  • 1 Table Service Meal (1 entree, 1 non-alcoholic beverage, 1 Dining Plan dessert),
  • 1 Quick Service Meal (1 entree platter, 1 non-alcoholic beverage),
  • 1 snack
  • 1 non-alcoholic beverage
The Universal Quick Service plan for $22.99 includes
  • 1 Quick Service Meal (1 entree platter, 1 non-alcoholic beverage),
  • 1 snack
  • 1 non-alcoholic beverage

Yeah, I think at those prices I'll be skipping it. Didn't even see the one about the Table Service Plan. That's ridiculous in my opinion.

It is worth it if you plan on buying butterbeer and a slightly more expensive meal- say, nearly any meal in the HP sections. Butterbeers are a snack and cost $6.99. Most drinks in HP are around $4, and most meals are around $13-17. You easily save money if you use all the credits in HP and use the snack on a butterbeer. Otherwise, it is really hard to break even.

I'm doing the meal plan for the same reason I do it at WDW.. so I don't have to worry about one more charge during the vacation. By paying for it upfront, I won't be hit with a big food bill when I check out. However, I haven't found this meal plan to be as all inclusive as Disney. I've found that the hotels and most of City Walk aren't on the plan and that sucks.
Since I've already paid for it, I may cancel it before I go and take the money back on a Universal Gift Card and use that to pay for my food.

We have the the quick service meal plan a few times. I reviewed it in my TR for my first trip to Universal in my signature. It can be worth it.

I typically only buy several (u can buy them one at a time). And only if we are ordering a $$ entree. We get 2 orders of the rib and chicken dinner ($17? each) and it feeds 4 of us so its pretty worth it along with pumpkin fizz. Then a butterbeer (frozen is $6.99!!) or the like for the snack credit. The second drink is a pop or a fresh lemonade. Works out ok for $22.99. And its flexible because u buy them at any QS restaurant right when u are ordering.

Don't forget to eat at Mythos (without the plan!). Very affordable (we averaged $50 between the 4 of us) and really really yummy and incredibly well-themed.

There is a food sticky above.

It has all the prices for food and all menus for hotels, Citywalk and the parks. Will give you an idea of food costs.

We have never had an interest in doing any of the meal plans.
