i eat smaller meals and hate to be wasteful. Can we take our leftovers back to the room to snack on later? Is there a microwave in the room? Most portions in restaurants are so huge that I can't finish them.

You can certainly take leftovers back to your cabin but there is no guest microwaves anywhere. You would have to eat it cold.

I have found that the portions onboard in the MDR's are smaller than many restaurants.

+1...With so many courses at dinner, the individual portions are smaller.

If you want to take it back with you they will usually bring you one of the metal lids to put over your plate.

We skipped courses to deal with the "too much food" issue (e.g. get salad or soup but not both; no appetizers). I asked one night if we could get a smaller portion -- e.g a smaller steak. We were told and to not worry about leaving food on the plate. So we just adapted and didn't worry :-)

My concern with taking food back to the room (we have debating bringing a eusable container for just this purpose) is that I don't really trust the in-room fridge to keep food in the safe temperature range. So if we bring something back it is non-perishables or something like dessert that will get eaten shortly (maybe an hour later or soemthing).

As PP have noted, there are no microwaves for reheating.

Don't forget. Food can become hazardous to health if not kept at proper temperatures. I would suggest letting it go to waste and eating only what you want. Better than to spoil your vacation because of illness. You will not starve.

I'd like all of the courses to try something new...I'm very picky! But hate to waste! I'm excited about the food. So probably a couple of bites for each course. I tend to get hypoglycemic from not eating often enough so I need to think of food I can keep safely in the room.

I want a microwave!

There is Room Service 24 hours a day except the last night, then it stops at 12. You can order at anytime.

I agree about the in room cooler. Its just that...a cooler not a refrigerator. You could waste your vacation being sick trying to not waste food.

Try to eat all the meat if you can. I'm not a vegetarian but I don't let meat go to waste. A poor animal died at least you can do is not let the meat go to waste. I eat plenty and plenty of meat but try not to let it go to waste.

In addition to room service as a PP mentioned, there are the quick serve places on the pool deck that are almost always open.

I'm hypoglycemic as well and never have issues on the ship. I have to always have snacks on excursions so I order Uncrustables from room service the night before. That way I'm ok and have a good snack while off the ship.

FYI - just got off the Fantasy Saturday and room service stopped at 1:30 the last night (I ordered just before 12:30).

My understanding is that the food waste is actually recycled onboard mind (I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning they had a mascerator onboard to mush it down and then feed it to the fish but not sure how true that is). The serving staff told me that food is recycled though but I never checked how.

I was on a cruise with a woman who said she wanted to heat up some water for coffee but couldn't get the in-room microwave to work, no matter how many buttons she pushed. A friend told her the "microwave" was really the in-room safe.

We typically share courses at our table so that we get a taste but don't fill up too quickly. The portions are small and you can order several items if you want. The food by the pool is open most of the day until about 11 PM.
