Our carrier Midwest Express is not a participating carrier for ME. We plan to use it though and get our own luggage and go to POR. Mid-way through our vacation we need to pick up a rental car to do 2 different things in Florida, plus we need it to drive to Tampa to fly back home to Milwaukee.

Could we book ME back to MCO to pick up our rental? We are also changing resorts that day from POR to BWV. If I get my rental at MCO, I save 40% off from Hertz, if I pick the vehicle up near WDw, I loose that 40%.

Just tell me if this is allowed with ME, I tried calling and asking and she laughed at me and told me to call back next March, they didn't even want to talk to me because my ressie isn't till April.

I don't see why not. When you call them, to book, just 'pretend' you are really leaving on that day you make the switch. According to DME themselves, everyone who is staying at a WDW resort is entitled to a ride to their resort and a ride back to the airport. They didn't say when the ride back had to be!! I would just give them bogus flight info...remember to find flight info that gets you back to the airport at the right time to pick up your rental.

Any guest that uses DME can use the yellow, bar coded, luggage tags and bypass baggage claim. Participating airline refers to to the ability to use the RAC service to check your luggage at your resort for your flight back.

You can certainly use DME for a trip to MCO on the date you check out. If Disney won't take an open return just give them a flight that leaves about 2 hours after you want to be in the airport.

Something on which Goofy4tink didn't comment, because it wasn't part of your question but was stated in your post: you do NOT have to pick up your own luggage! "Participating airline" only matters on the trip back to the airport. Just attach a yellow DME tag to each checked bag before you leave home; check it at your home airport; and voila! It will magically appear in your room several hours after you check in. Doesn't matter which airline you're on - ALL Guests flying into MCO on ANY airline get to use DME.

Thanks for the responses. Like I said I called ME and she said to call back in March. I had no idea ME would take my bags to my room when we get to Orlando.

We have to be up in St. Augustine on Easter Sunday by 3:00 p.m.to watch my dd and her h.s. band march in the Easter Parade. So we plan to be on our way by at least noon. So we should have ME take us by 10-11 a.m.?

DME will pick you up about 3 hours before your flight, they allow about an hour for multiple stops at WDW, delays and travel to MCO. Telling DME you have a 2:00 flight will get you picked up around 11:00 and should get you to MCO by noon.

Nice catch!!! Thanks for adding the info!!

This is the reason I love the DIS. I learn something new all the time.

Next question, should I have ME pick me up at POR, or should I go over to BWV and check in and have them pick me up there.

Unless something changes you won't have a choice. DME picks you up at your resort which would be POR. You might just go to MCO early, drive back to WDW and use the car to move your luggage from POR to BWV.
