ME Question for Canadians

I was hoping I could get some ME clarification from my fellow Canadians.

On my next trip we will be flying from Calgary to Toronto and then to Orlando.

I belive that we will need to collect our bags in Toronto, go through customs and then give our luggage back.

So my question is, do I put my ME tags on my luggage in Calgary before leaving or do I put them on in Toronto? This will be my first time making a Canadian stop over (usually we make a US stop) so I am not sure what the process is.

On a somewhat related topic, will we need to go through Security in both Calgary and Toronto, or just in Calgary?

Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

Yes, you have to collect your bags in Toronto. Put your yellow ME tags on then. You have to actually leave the security area to get your luggage in the Toronto airport so you get to do it all over again after you drop off your luggage!

You clear customs once in Calgary. You put your tags on here and you do not need to pick up your bags in Toronto unless you are changing airlines. If you are just connecting on the same airline your bags will be transferred to your connecting flight and delivered to your room.

We are leaving from NL and going through customs in TO. I was planning on putting my ME tags on as we go through customs. Would it be better to put them on in NL??

Actually, you can't clear customs in Calgary, you do that in Toronto. You have to pick up your baggage after the Calgary-Toronto leg and clear customs there.

Really? That is ridiculous. Why can't they have direct flights year round? It is so much easier to fly direct as you check in and Calgary and relax! Thanks for letting us know!

Yeah, a direct flight would be nice for sure. It's much easier to go through customs in Calgary than Toronto!
