Our flight is scheduled to land at MCO at 9:55pm. Since this is cutting it close to the ME luggage cut-off of 10pm, how will we know if they got our luggage or not?

I would say that if you arrive in the main terminal (get off the tram) after 10 PM, you should go to the carousel.

If'/when you go to the carousel, if you don't find your bags there, file a baggage claim with the airline before leaving the area.

I would love to hear the official word on this.

Arriving that close to 10pm, I wouldn't even tag the bags to begin with. I would much rather just go to baggage claim, get the bags and head to the DME area.
In fact, I would do that if my flight was due to arrive at any time after 9pm...just to be on the safe side.

I agree with the above posters. Even if it was close you might make it but you still might have to wait up to 3 hours to get the luggage at your room. From our own experience I did not like bell services knocking at 1am. So now if we have a late flight we don't even tag our bags and pick them up ourselves and bring them to the bus that way when we get there our luggage is there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are booked on the Panama Canal cruise, and we are flying in the night before (don't want to risk flying in day-of...especially flying out of the northeast in January). We are booked at BWV for one night...just a place to settle in for the night, and leave for the cruise the next morning. Since it's a long cruise, we will have a lot of luggage, and I was really hoping to leave it in the hands of ME, but I think you are right...it's too risky with our arrival time.

If I waited there, and they didn't come through, I'd be freaking out -- "Did ME get them? Did they not get them?" I think your idea of filing a claim with the airline is a good one, especially if I was staying on WDW property for a while. But since we are arriving late, and we have to leave for the cruise the next morning, we're just hoping to get to the hotel quickly, settle in, and get some sleep before the excitement of the following day.

I think your suggestions are good ones...to not even tag the bags at all. Yes, it will be a pain lugging all that luggage through the terminal (cart please!), but as you said, at least we know we will have them. Nothing would panic me more than not knowing if ME got them, and losing sleep waiting for them to come...especially knowing I have to get on the ship the next day. There's not a lot of time to wait around for lost luggage.

I was mostly curious if other's had arrived that close to 10pm, and what their experiences have been. But I think you offer a good rule of thumb...anything arriving after 9pm, don't tag the bags!

I'm just the opposite.

I would tag those bags. If my plane arrived at the gate at 9:55pm or sooner, then I would be heading directly for DME with my 24-hour carryon.

I would then tell my resort front desk to hold my bags till the next morning. Then go to bed!!! No unpacking, no waiting on bags, no dragging bags from the carousel.

The next morning, we would be out the door and on our way. When we come back for our afternoon break, and our bags are in the room, THEN we unpack.

If our bags are not there, then we toss our dirties from the day before in the wash machine, make a claim with the resort, then enjoy our evening. If our stuff is not there by the next day, then we rent a car and make a Wal-Mart run, and hassle the front desk some more.

We have our essentials in our carryon. There is NOTHING in our checked luggage that a washer and dryer and a trip to Wal-Mart won't cure.

We have done this ever since DME came into being. We have NEVER had to wash because our bags have been late, we have never had to make a Wal-Mart run.

(Now in the OPs case, meeting a cruise the next morning, I would probably grab my bags. Actually I would probably stay at the airport Hyatt!!)

Since your going on a cruise I would get the bags myself just to make sure they all arived at MCO, the way airlines loose luggage I would not leave it to chance. It would take a while to catch up with you on your cruise. It says in the DME packet I got today that if you arrive after 10pm to claim your luggage.
If you tag it and your flight is delayed by the 5 min then your going to be panicking as to where your luggage might end up.

Enjoy your cruise! The PC is beautiful and a wonderful cruise experience

If I can get a great rate at the Hyatt, I might switch the reservation there. We've got BWV booked on points, just in case. We need two rooms, and the Hyatt is $250/room, as opposed to a Studio at 10pts/room. But for the convenience, I would definitely consider staying at the Hyatt, if the price is right!

Meeting a cruise adds more to the equation (argument; discussion) and therefore things (related to the best way) change.

It would be a good idea to reserve DME back to the airport 4 hours in advance instead of the usual 3 just in case something else goes wrong with this added link (for people as opposed to baggage) compared with staying overnight close to the airport. As with all DME reservations, do it at least a day in advance which, here, means at the welcoming area when you arrive. Reserving an earlier-than-usual bus back to the airport is always granted.
