The first post on page 2 is about DME and includes some pictures. If your child can climb the steps shown on that page, he could get onto the bus that way and have the driver stow his chair in the storage area underneath the bus.
You also need to be aware that the wheelchair tie down spots are at the back of the bus, so if your child climbs on the bus, he would either have to sit near the front or be able to walk all the way back to join you.
He could also choose to ride up the lift, transfer out of the wheelchair to a seat and send the wheelchair back down the lift to be stowed.
The lift equipped buses are usually set up for one wheelchair, but they have tiedowns for 2-3 wheelchairs, so you could choose to have him remain in his wheelchair too, as long as it is a standard wheelchair tht cn be tied down, not a special needs stroller type without a transport option.
But im not quite so little and my chair does not fold in half as rigid s frame.
We have Me booked but do i need to phone up before hand remind them about wheelchairs ? or will they call for one when we get there
thank you
For arrival, you can do either. If you have not mentioned needing a lift bus when you booked, they will order one when you get to the DME desk.
We have never bothered to call to remind them - it's not vital to get going from the airport and because it takes us longer to get off the plane, make a restroom stop and get to the DME desk, I m not sure it makes much difference in the wait.
It is VITAL to make sure you have a lift bus reserved to pick you up from your resort on the way back though. A delay there could mean a missed flight.
You can find the FAQs thread stuck near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature. Post one of that thread is an index and you may find a lot of other helpful info if you have not been there before.
