Me + 22 lb baby +

I brought my big Graco stroller one time and the bus drivers always offered to help me. I'm sure another guest or the driver would help you if you need help. I know that I would certainly offer to help someone alone with a stroller, diaper bag, and a baby.

If you have a Baby Bjorn or another carrier, could you wear the baby, at least for the bus trips, so that your hands would be free to fold the stroller?

Enjoy your trip. It sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day with your baby. :goodvibes

Me too! My DD is also 20 months, and around 23-24lbs! It's funny too because she's not "skinny"... :confused3

Oh yes, my daughter isn;t either....well in a way. She needs 18 month pants for the length, but they fall down on her. However, her tummy sticks out, she inherited my pot belly.

It's really not that hard, just takes a little practice. I hauled my then 1 yr old around to AK from Ft Wilderness all day by myself. We have a BOB stroller and it doesn't have a locking system when it's closed to I just folded it w/ one hand and carried DS on and off the buses.
Our only challenge was the train to rafiki's but a very nice gentleman helped me in and out (since the rows face the side of the train). I also had a backpack.

DS is also a skinny thing (He just turned 25mos and he's only at 24lbs) but he's only gained about 3 lbs in a year. No matter what, they get heavy being carried.

I would highly recommend a baby carrier of some sort. Put your baby in the baby carrier of choice then you can fold down the stroller and carry it on no problem.

I was going to say a baby carrier (we brought our son to DL at 12 months old, granted he didn't weigh 22 lbs, but we didn't use a stroller at all)...or talk your husband into an easier stroller...you will need it eventually anyhow...

other suggestion, bite the bullet and rent a stroller in the park just that day...just carry baby and backpack on the bus

Okay, 10mos might be too small for the park's rental stroller, but what about buying a cheap umbrella stoller that DOES have a sun shade and reclines? They're only about $20, though they don't recline much...

Or, buy a decent umbrella (I think the Jeep models are only $40-$50), use it, then sell it on Craigslist for 50-70% of what you paid.

Or, bring the umbrella stroller, add a clip-on umbrella, and just tip the stoller back on 2 wheels when DD's ready for a nap ;)

Or, if all else fails, add a hip hammock or similar baby carrier to your assemblage. Now the scenario is: backpack on back, chunky monkey STRAPPED ON to one side, stroller in one hand. This still leaves one hand free to hold onto railings/other people to keep you from falling over. And you'll use the hip hammock for at least another year. (Unlike the decent umbrella stroller, which you would never need again, esp. not for your next Disney trip when DD is 3 or 4 or 5... we're borrowing my SIL's MacLaren for our trip - haven't used a stroller in 2 years, but we NEED one for Disney!)

Good luck - hope it turns out well!

Although plenty of people, I'm certain, will be willing to help get the stroller folded up and onboard the bus you will want to have a sling or carrier to stash your dd in just before you get in line for the bus. Once you're on board you still have to keep control of the stroller, there's no place to secure them...and a sudden stop with you trying to hold dd and the stroller could be bad. Strap her up, ask for help, you'll be fine!

My chunky monkey was 22lbs at 4 months old...his first trip to WDW. He was wearing 18 - 24 month clothes!!! (now, he's tall and skinny...go figure)

I so wish I had used a sling to help in lines. I particularly remember thinking my arms were going to fall off as we waited to go on the boat ride in Mexico!!

Fast forward a few years and our second angel is a runt. At 3, he is able to wear some jackets that our first one had at 1 year!! Anywho...on our trips last year, I purchased a Hotsling and it was perfect for supporting his 25 - 30lb body...and even with a back injury, I was good to go for long periods. They fold up to nothing in the diaper bag and weigh hardly anything! I purchased mine in a baby store because it is very important that it fit you well, but they are now selling them at Target too.

Good luck!!

Another mom of a big baby!!!!

I think you said you were getting a new stroller in April- I would just move it up and do it now. The Graco travel system was my single worst baby purchase. He outgrew it heightwise by 18 mo!!!! I would go check out a Peg Perego P3, Inglesina Zippy, or Maclaren-check out the weight limits so your stroller will last through all the strolling years! You will be able to maneuver and fold these much more easily. P3 and Zippy have child trays. You really won't miss the storage- I never have, I just strap things to the handles though the maclarens can get tippy when you take out the baby!

I would definetly go and get another stroller the hot florida sun is brutal on baby skin and she will burn very fast and easy even with sunblock (don't forget that :goodvibes ) And to allow her to fall asleep comfortably while being pushed around makes for a happy baby :) :)
Is there a reason why you have to wait for April and after your trip? I would talk to your husband and hopefully he will understand and you can get an easy to fold, and comfortable one for your precious baby good luck and I also had 4 big babies my biggest was 10lbs and 02 oz and he is now 18.5 years old and is now 6ft 5 inches tall :scared1: the others were 9 lbs 11oz and 2 were 9lbs 4oz and all were chunky monkeys :lmao:

I PROMISE you that you can do it!

When DS was born I didn't have my license so I took the city bus wherever we went. I managed to lug his huge Graco travel system stroller, his CARSEAT, his diaper bag, etc with me on the bus lol. I wouldn't do it again, ever, but for one day I think you will be okay :) I always had a lot of people get up and take the stroller from me to get situated. You will do fine :)

They do sell sunshade things at BRU that might work on your umbrella stroller. If not I would just bite the bullet and get a Maclarent Quest with 2 SkipHop saddle bags. All your problems solves. It reclines, has a canopy and the sunshade I mentioned above definietly works with it for adding more coverage, you have a basket and the saddle bags would be diaper bags but they stay attached even when folded so you would have baby and a stroller with a handle to carry.

I know everyone seems to love the Maclaren strollers but if I were alone, I'd almost rather use my old travel system stroller. Neither my DH or I can EVER get the Mac (quest) to fold one handed (or even easily with two hands - maybe we have a defective one, lol) and everytime my dd wanted to get out when I was alone, of course I'd forget about the tippy issues and down went the stroller. The sunshade on them are terrible and I missed my cup holder (had to spend money on both new sunshade and drink holder). Now, with that said, I do LOVE the way it pushes - but that is about it. My husband hates that stroller and would also prefer the travel system because we can do a one hand fold and it stands on it's own.

I am sure there will be someone around that will offer to help before you can even think about asking. The one day I was alone it seemed like people were standing beside me ready to help before I even had a chance to think about taking dd out of her stroller. I remember when it tipped over at DTD that day, I had three people rush over to pick it up for me. I would much rather be on a bus with a travel system that will stand up folded than the mac that wanted to roll all over the place and I constantly fought with because it doesn't stand.

I'm just not a big fan of the Mac stroller's after using it for a week at Disney!
