Has anyone gone through security at MDW (Chicago Midway) now that they have body scanners? Do we need to allow for extra time?

Thanks!

Your airport should have its own website, and it should be updated to the point where will/can inform visitors at any given time how much time to allow between arrival at the airport and flight departure.

Thanks kaytieeldr!

In my experience the websites haven't always been accurate. While I'm the type A in the group, DH always worries about missing the flight. We're so known for getting to the airport early, its turned into a favorite joke of our family. He's nervous about the new scanners and that leads him to want to get there even earlier. I'm just trying to prevent us from having to spend the night before the flight in the airport...:lmao:

You are right to doubt both the airport and TSA web sites for processing time. You might want to check out flyertalk - the travel and sceurity board and see whether there is any current info on Midway. also, the SWA board over there might be helpful.

If you plan on opting out of the scanners you should allow some additional time for the more intensive searches of your bodies and carry ons.

Can't speak for Midway, but based on very recent experience - simply because there are scanners at your airport doesn't mean they will be at your specific terminal. I tried, both times, to be scanned - no luck.

We went through MDW on Dec 27th. There was a scanner, but it did not appear to be in use.

We always get to the airport 2 hours prior to flight time these days. It seems to be more than enough.

BTW, if you get to MDW early and are looking for food, the best sandwiches (in our opinion) is Potbelly's, just inside security. They have great breakfast sandwiches as well. They are a popular sandwich place around Chicago and the airport location is just as good as the other ones. Their prices are also reasonable!

But I did get patted down at Logan, duds! I'll write a transportation report over the weekend ;)
