MDE Unlock room feature question

I manage each family member's MDE account. If we are staying in different rooms, will the unlock door feature work for each of our rooms or only the room with my name on it? Would I need to ask my family members to set up their own accounts if we want to use that feature? Thanks in advance!

I have not had luck with the feature. We always use our ticket or magic band.

The feature is very wonky
I’ve had it not work more than it works
On a single room
I doubt it can work on any but ones where you are primary

I believe it would only work on your room with your name. We had very little luck with the feature and never went without our bands, except once...

My first attempt to use it started out as a bust, but eventually it did work: I had left the room very early on our 1st full morning, because I was still not quite in vacation mode and was up too early. To not disturb my family, I grabbed my phone off the charger and my resort mug. I went to wait for Landscape of Flavors to open and get coffee. I'd look through my phone while down there. Everyone was sweet as pie at LoF and here I was at Disney. It was great first morning.

Finally it was time for me to head back up. About the time I was getting to Sheriff at Building 3, my world shrank down to my wrist as I looked and saw... no magic band. I thought about gently knocking on the door, but then remembered the app. The first 4 or 5 times, it did not work at all. Just when I was about to just knock and wake them up, I tried one more time and this time it worked.

Not a foolproof feature by any stretch.

If you book multiple rooms under one reservation number, which can only be done if you call Disney to make the reservation, then you should be able to unlock all of the rooms with your MagicBand or the unlock door feature. If each room has a separate reservation number than only the people who are in that room will be able to unlock the door with MBs or the unlock door feature.

You can make the reservations for each of your family members using your MDE account. But if you think they will ever be going on WDW in the future, then they should have their own accounts.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Sounds like magic bands it is!

Thank you for your response and advice. I will have each person create their own account.
