MDE on iPhone

So, I am getting ready to upgrade my iPhone, and I am wondering what others have experienced regarding the functionality of the MDE app on different versions. I am trying to decide what version to get.

I am currently puttering along with an iPhone 5, which is ancient by iPhone standards. And I can tell you the MDE app will not even open on my current phone. (Actually, opens briefly, then crashes. Stays open once in a while, but runs slowly.)

In regard to MDE, is there any clear advantage in getting the latest and greatest in iPhones? Or will I be OK with a slightly older version?

I have done an unofficial surveying on this. My results is that older phones don't typically work with MDE (as you mentioned). Newer iPhones are hit or miss and I couldn't find a clear advantage of getting a newer iPhone. Even people with the people with new iPhones had issues (although maybe a little less). The one thing that was obvious is that android devices were much much better than iPhones.

I recently got an iPhone 8 and the app works pretty well. It closes out on its own sometimes and runs slow but I don’t know if that’s my phone. I will say that Dh has a Samsung galaxy s9 and the app works SO much better on his phone. I ended up giving up and we used his phone for anything we needed on the app

I think it’s about the version of the operating system more than the version of the iphone.

i have always had an iPhone and didn't realize how much slower the response time was until i upgrade to a galaxy S9. through the years i have had an iPhone 4, 6S and 7. I just had accepted that it was slow...until now

We had 0 issues with our iphoneXs on 2 trips this fall. I've never had a major issue with any iphone and I've had them since 2007. My issue is user error breaking them
