MDE App Update & Recent “Refresh” Changes Discussion (we’re not doomed!)

I think maybe a title change/addition to the post might be useful though. All of this started in here because we at first thought the issue was the updated app but instead it's the entire FP system having been updated.

It’s not just beyond your first 3. I’m not there so I am only trying for 1. Space Mountain would not let me successfully modify times from 9:25pm tonight at all, despite it showing available earlier times, sometimes 2 time options at once.

What do any of us know... except WDW. But I have previously used different devices and gotten multiple sets of high value FPs with the same time window. And popular ones like 7DMT. Just by refreshing at the same time. But it’s also possible there was actually 8-12 of them available all along. Only WDW would know that.
I think in this instance, somebody just put in the wrong line of code, but time will tell...

The popular opinion around here seems to be Disney is intentionally making it frustrating so you will spend money to make it work easier. I for one think that is a ridiculous theory.

I believe Disney is trying to make things more fair. A few days ago the knowledgeable power users had a far higher likelihood of scoring hard to get FP+s because they knew the tricks. Now everyone has the same crappy chance of having that FP snatched out fron under them.

Most of the recent changes both actual and theoretical have been about that same thing. Eliminating the advantage of the power user so that the everyday guest has more of a fighting chance. These boards and threads are populated by the power users, so every time one of the tricks that gives them an advantage is taken away, they seem to think Disney is out to ruin their experience. Disney is not out to ruin any ones experience. They are trying to improve the experience for the vast majority of guests who dont know the tricks.

That being said, the execution here was crappy and it seems to make the experience worse for everyone so hopefully they will find a way to fox it.

If the "power users"are being frustrated by this new system, how in the world is the"average" guest going to figure it out?

Actually it started because I liked the way the new app layout looked!! I never would have imagined it would have turned into this lol

I don’t mind changing the title, I just don’t want to panic people just yet if it’s just a new system glitch.

Not necessarily in those words. There's a rumor floating around that they will start making us pay for FPs. It's just a rumor and all of this could be a coincidence. Only time will tell.

I'm aware of the rumor (and of the fact that there have been such rumors for years and years). I am willing to believe that Disney may find a way to better monetize FP+. I dont think they will ever do away with a free option however, and above anything else I dont believe they are intentionally making the free option work badly to set up guests for a paid options (which some in this thread are speculating is the reason behind this change)

lol the app itself I do like. I'm finding it much faster than ever before which 'power users' will love!! :) The post did take quite the turn though!!!

Sure did!!! I’m just not sure what to change it to so it’s appropriate and not causing panic... I don’t want to upset the TPAS Moderator :upsidedow

So maybe, unless someone actually is successful getting a FP that was unavailable at the beginning of the day you might assume that If someone cancels a FP they are just taken out of circulation but MDE shows them briefly as available. So a 4th FP would be an option only if they were never sold out for the day already. Sorry, I am also a cynic when it comes to Disney.

That comes up with almost every single change Disney makes. There’s just no real evidence they’re going that route. It’s pure speculation.

Oh I am sure we'll still get some freebies. I don't think it's wrong to see this as possibly a step toward controlling and limiting FP usage, which could then become a new system for paid FP.

I've had plenty of success (between the frustrations) in getting FP's for top rides that have been dropped.

I said they did a bad job. I'm not advocating for this change. I was just presenting a possible theory on why it was made.

I think it is universally agreed that the current functionality is crappy and worse than the old system.

I think they made a change that they couldn't understand the net result of until it was done. I would bet that it will either be reversed or improved. I dont think the current result is really what they had in mind.

Prior experience proves otherwise

I think there are plenty of examples of Disney charging for things that were once included, but I'm not aware of any examples of Disney intentionally making something bad to get guests to select a paid option. Feel free to share if you have any.

Maybe at MK it's easier? Perhaps because of the number of rides. That's where I'm hoping to be able to do most of my refreshing. That's the park I'm hoping to do a few rides mulitple times. I'm not too concerned about AK as we only have 3 rides we really want to do and I'm booking FPs for those. Was going to look for a fourth one on the Kali River and that would be it for the day! EPCOT...again...only three rides there really interested in....FEA, TT, and Soarin'. Yes I know....all tier 1s. Was going to FP TT, rope drop FEA and stand by Soarin after doing TT. After that, only looking for a fourth FP on the Character Meet with Mickey and the gang. I can only hope I suppose.

Oh yeah. I forgot people were having trouble on the actual website too. Oh well.....just hoping as JETSDAD said, I can have better luck in MK, that's the only park I'm really looking to do a lot of refreshing in.
We were at MK yesterday and today. Lots of issues with MDE showing times and I would click on them as fast as possible and then it would tell me no longer available. Taking 10x longer to get additional fast passes.
