MDE app is hosed up

None of my trip info is showing up on the MDE app, but it shows up through the website. I try to link the reservation (which I made a month ago on the website) in the app and it says the number does not exist. My dining reservations also don't show up on the app, and won't link. What do I need to do? Please tell me I don't need to make a 1 hour phone call to Disnet IT.

I've noticed an odd bug with the MDE app on my phone where sometimes my plans don't show up in the home tab, so then I go to "My Profile" and try to sign in again (it always throws back an error message even though I am sure I'm using the right login & password) and then go back to "Home" and they're there. Try to sign in again and then maybe try to re-install like LovePug suggested?

It says the reservation is linked to a different account, which is funny because I'm using the same login information on the site and the app. I've only ever had one account and I've taken multiple trips and never had a problem with the app until now.

I did delete and reinstall the app, no Bueno.

This may not seem to be a helpful piece of advice but really, it is if you choose to take it so, when it comes to the MDE app, the only way to deal with it is to not use it.

What you're complaining about is the same sort of issues that everyone has had with it from the beginning. It's a nice idea of Disney's but it's a flop in execution. I thank the lord for the Dis, so I did not change my touring style at all the way Disney encourages you to, by relying on their faulty app for all your info and schedule.

I have stuck to what works - Paper. And myself. I know I can rely on myself and keeping track of my schedule and reservations that I have written down on paper - I have never once lost the paper I have written or typed my itinerary on. I am far from anti-digital or anti-internet - I use it in my life and have replaced many of the former ways of doing things, but it all comes down to if the technology works and is efficient. The MDE app is neither. And yes, I am sure many will come to it's defense and talk about how it worked great on their vacation. But all the others who say it hasn't. What that equals to is UNRELIABILITY. And that is the one totally unacceptable factor in a piece of technology or equipment or internet app. I will not change how I do things if the potential perks of the change do not outweigh the risk of it's reliability.

No thank you. So my advice is to write your itinerary on paper and keep it safe and forget this app business till Disney sorts it out which I'm starting to think will be never.

How do you change a fastpass+ time with your paper?

I had a similar problem with the website a couple days ago. None of my ADRs showed up. It seemed to correct itself after several minutes but definitely gave me pause.

I would also echo that it's a good idea to print out an itinerary. Even if MDE were reliable (we didn't really have problems other than it being slow), cell access in the park is not. It seems like they hit bandwidth issues in the afternoons. Or at least that was our experience in March and my SIL warned me about that from her previous trips too.

Well, that's different and not what the original poster was talking about. It's already been addressed actually, in the thread, but you would just go through the website for things like that, obviously. It's not infallible either, of course, but it's more consistent than the app.

I mean, if you're talking about changing fast passes during your vacation, if you have a smart phone, you can still access the disney site through whatever browser you use on it to browse the internet. It may not be THAT easy to do, but it's still more reliable than the app.

If you want to download the app, go right ahead - just don't rely on it for anything, is what I'm saying. And I assumed most people want to use the app as a reminder of when their dining reservations and fast passes were, as an itinerary. I never really thought about people using the app to make lots of changes during their vacation for things. I've never needed to change a fast pass during my vacation and I've previously changed dining reservations using my room phone. I imagine you could also get your resort concierge to help you make a change to your fast passes if it's during your vacation.

And as for Disney's wifi maxing out or being unreliable, it is a pain, I agree, but whenever you rely on any public place's wifi, you always are at their mercy. I understand you feel we are paying for this as part of our ticket - All I can say to that is bring your concerns to Disney. I happen to think it's worth it paying your internet service provider for wifi as part of your cell phone plan, myself, because I can't be bothered with having to worry about accessing public networks that are unreliable. I have unlimited wifi/unlimited data plan in fact and it's not even that expensive with my plan - I pay under $40 a month and think it's worth every penny.

I actually meant cell service not Disney wifi. Of course that's carrier dependent but our family had two different major carriers who were totally bogged down in the afternoon.

The MDE help desk people (407-939-5277) can probably get you straightened out if you haven't contacted them already. I had to call last week to get a duplicate child merged into one record, and they were able to help me out very quickly.

That said, you can login to MDE on your smartphone browser at the parks as RealBlast mentioned, but the app has some slightly different capabilities that we find helpful when trying to update FP+ and use a combination of both to find day-of hard to get fast passes. It's good to have the app functional while you're there.

Wow. What a limited view of what the app can be used for. I use it throughout our trips as much more than a reminder / itinerary. It has worked very well for me. Even if it's down occasionally, I wouldn't jump through hoops to try to use the website on my phone browser instead of trying the app first. That would be cutting off my nose to spite my face. What a strange mentality.

Well, I don't use it LOL, so I was just using my best educated guess as to what it could be used for based on what the regular disney website can be used for - I can't imagine it can offer much more than the main website? And all I am saying is don't DEPEND on the app, which most would agree is sage advice, like if you have no idea what you're doing on the day and you go to check out the app and it's one of those "occasional" downtimes for it, than what are you going to do? So, I'm sorry but when you're talking about precious time on a vacation, "occasional" downtimes is just not going to cut it.

Sure, it is smart to have a backup of your plans in case you can't access the app. Easy to do with a quick screenshot or you can go with the paper method. The app is very useful. I'd hate to see people avoid trying to use it for fear that it may go down at some point. We've had no trouble with it at all on our last 28 park days. I know they don't have 100% uptime, but that is far from so unreliable as to be useless as you are implying.

I guess it just seems worse to me because of all the many, many threads and complaints on the app that have been made here since it's inception.

it is a database program. The APP has nothing to do with anything.

The web service calling the DB could have been down, or any other number of connectivity issues. In most instances rebooting your device will correct the issue.

of course. like with all software. no one posts to a message board to say "i used the app and it worked fine"

I made the reservation over a month ago on the website and had not opened the app.
Last night I deleted the MDE app, updated the OS on my i-Pad, and reinstalled MDE. Nope, nothing, still not there.

Are you sure the app is logged into the same account that the web browser is? Many people accidentally have multiple MDE accounts. That is the first thing to check.

does the reservation shop up on the web site? if yes, dont worry about it. Eventually the cache in the app will update with the most recent view from the DB.
