What is the best route to drive from the Orlando airport to Vero Beach?

I think many people take the fastest route (95 south), but we prefer to take 46 east over to the coast and take A1A south. It is maybe 20 mins longer and 46E is a long ride through nowhere for about 45 mins, but we much prefer to get to see the ocean on the way down and going through the towns is interesting, especially if you want to visit a surf shop on the way (like RonJon's).

Once you are on A1A you're on the road the resort is on, so no more thinking or watching for exits and no more anxiety with negotiating with high speed highway traffic. Just my perspective though.

Curious where you would stay. We are flying in on a sunday night but not checking in until monday. looking for a safe clean cheap place to stay along the way. Any choices, anyone would recommend?

If you take the route I described you have a huge selection of chain hotels in the Titusville/Cocoa Beach area. It puts you about an hour away from the resort. We stayed at the Best Western Space Shuttle Inn last year. It was acceptable, clean, had nice grounds, and in the $70+ range.
