Does anyone know if someone flying into MCO via Continental, would be able to meet another party at a Southwest gates 45 minutes later? Are these part of the airport seperate?

I believe it's possible. both are on the A side. Continental uses Gates 1-29 (West) and Southwest uses 100-129 (East).

Security is handled at the main building.

As long as you don't take the tram to the main building to claim any bags first, you should be able to go to the SWA gates.

i should clarify.. i'm quite positive you are actually able to go between A gates and B gates without having to go through security (although in this case it's not the scenario). you just can't go to baggage claim and back.

Continental and Southwest land in two different pods on the A side of the terminal. So you won't be able to meet up in the gate areas. You'll need to take the shuttle system from the gate areas to the main terminal area and meet up in the terminal. I'd suggest that whomever gets in first should probably go get their luggage and then go back up to the A side terminal to wait for the other party near the area where they'll come from their gate. Or meet up in the luggage claim area. Look here http://www.orlandoairports.net/ops/term.htm for MCO terminal maps to get an idea of the layout. The airport is very well laid out and easy to navigate.

You can't go from between gate areas on either the A or B sides, except for the gates in the pod in which you land. You have to pass through security in the main terminal in order to get to the shuttles that take you to the pods where the gates are located.

ok, but i'm still confused... you don't have to exit the clear area.. when you take the tram to the main building, 45 degrees in one direction from you is the tram to other gates. security and the exit to the main terminal is in front of you. but from what i recall, you can go to the other tram, wherever that goes.

but i guess i'm wrong

See these maps:

Airside 1 & 3 are in the west security area. Airside 2 & 4 are in the east security area. Security does not go by A & B. You can jump between 1 & 3 without exiting security or 2 & 4 but not between east & west. Continental is in airside 1 (west), SW is in airside 2 (east). To get between them, you would have to exit the west security area into the main terminal and reenter on the east security area, which they are not going to allow you to do because you don't have a boarding pass to a flight in that area.

The best place to meet is by the fountain in front of the Hyatt. That's close to where the Southwest people will come out.

okay, that clears it up, thanks.. i knew you could go between two sets of gates but i was just confused on which tram went where.

my apologies to OP.
