Ok another random question, you all are always so helpful. The way I have it set up now my Dad is flying into MCO morning of cruise (I know I know but I can’t convince him otherwise), then taking Disney bus to the port. In that scenario he doesn’t have to pick up his luggage, it gets taken right to the port. If I switch things up and have him take private transportation to the port with the rest of us does he have to pick up his luggage or will Disney still transfer it for him as long as he puts the tags on? Trying to coordinate 6 people on 3 different schedules here lol.

DCL won't pick up the bags, unless he's taking the DCL transfers. He'll have to claim his bags and take them to the pick up location for the private transportation.

The other thing to consider before you dump the DCL transportation...

If something happens on the road - a wreck or something that ties up traffic, they will wait as long as possible for the bus but NOT for private transportation. If that private transportation is behind the final DCL bus, there is a good chance of missing the cruise.

That is a good point. His direct flight is supposed to get in at 10 am, there are flights from same origin point arriving at 11:10 and 12:30 as well, which was my dads arguement for not flying in the night before. My hubby is flying in the night before, and the rest of us a few days before for a pre-cruise getaway. Just trying to find the cheapest, most efficient option to get us all to port.

I know MCO to PC is not the same, but... A couple of years ago I was on a running cruise to Alaska - RCCL Radiance of the Seas from Anchorage (Seward) to Vancouver. There is one highway/road between Anchorage and Seward. We could bus or train between the two. Half our group did the bus (they gave us our own) and half did the train. The train people were later getting there - about dinner time - because there had been a massive accident that closed the road, so RCCL was able to get the train to stop at a midpoint station and they transferred as many people from buses to the train, but not everyone fit. So the ship was held until all the RCCL buses were able to get there - about 3:15am. (We we’re lucky that the captain held muster as scheduled and then had all the people who arrived after go to the theater.) Later in the cruise I met a couple who had arranged their own transport and in their words were lucky to be the car ahead of the last bus because the port security closed the gate directly behind the last RCCL bus. Anyone in private transport after that had to find their way to the first stop.

So...yeah, being on the cruiseline transportation can matter.

That's one of the reasons DCL transportation is more expensive. Sort of like a little insurance.
